ALT Tag is use to define the Image Content to Google.
So it would be best that you describe the banner include with keyword that you want to target.
So you may get higher keywords density that you target.
If you do not set ALT on your images, Google may take it as empty content.

The most important thing is to use meta descriptions, meta tags and sitemaps. Many people forget to include them.

First, you need to do keyword research to know who your target market is. Go search for google adwords tool. I would suggest you go for long tail keywords with less competition. That will make it easier to rank in Google. And always remember to target "Buying Keywords".

Next, if possible, buy a domain name that is your main keyword. It makes it easier to rank in Google.

Your title, meta keywords and description should contain your keywords as well. The title is the most important.

Next, your content MUST be unique and "sprinkle" with abit of your keywords. But don't overdo it and congest the content with your keywords.

Also, generate a sitemap. It makes it easier for Google crawlers to "comb" your website.

      Hope it helps.
