It's true, try removing the whole "Golf" car section AND also above your two ad units type a sentence about the page it is one so that Adsense is able to provide relevant ads about cars to each page.

I know what a volkswagen golf is, I also know that your ads are specifically for the game of golf.

You wanted to know why you have a 1% CTR, that's the reason, your traffic doesn't care about the golf game Ads.

I'm seeing ads about golf too..not the car, the sport.

Maybe turn off user based interest in your adsense settings.

Oh, and try image only ads. Could be better.

How do you know that people outside of Brazil are the only ones seeing golf (sport related) Adsense Ads?

If most of your traffic is from Brazil & you have 1% CTR, I'm sure that most people are seeing irrelevant Ads, regardless of which country they are in.

The Ads that you see are possibly based on your browser history.

I cleared my browser history/cookies (CCleaner) & running Chrome Incognito, so I doubt I'm looking at any personalized Ads.

As long as your Ads are irrelevant to the content, the Adsense CTR will most likely stay low.

You can tell google adsense what part of your content to crawl when deciding what ads are relevant for your site. I'd suggest doing this - and telling google to ignore the bit about golf/vw golf.

      1. Log into Adsense.

      2. Click on "Allow & Block Ads"

      3. Click on "Advance Settings"

      4. Click on "Interest-based Ads Preference" so that it is turned off.

use one Links Ads under post Title, Where you posted 2 ads. You can use 1 ads there and second in the middle of the post. Use 700x160 Ads at side bar. Use different color for your ads. if you reallly want to increase clicks.

Try this, i m sure that your CTR will increase.

To add to what's been said about relevancy of ads...

You have too many "dead ends". (Places you can click to which don't have ads/interest/navigation.) Also when you do have ads it's pushing almost all the content below the fold. That is going to be bad for rankings and turn people off. It might be good for clicks short-term, but since you're not getting a good CTR anyways it's definitely not worth it.

    - If I scroll to the bottom of most of your pages... there's not much to do or see there. No related posts, no ads. Maybe a more condensed category widget (cloud or drop down) could help that. But get something down there to interact with.

    - Find a better solution to your image links. As is, visitors end up on a page with no navigation or ads if they click on an image (and there's not much content other than images). If a visitor ends up clicking an image on your posts, they're essentially gone from your site. Your content probably isn't compelling enough to make them want to "come back".

    - Make your category pages more useful and put some ads on them. (Don't just put ads on them, there's not enough content to warrant it yet). Add excerpts and images, and preferably some unique text too.

    - Sneak some ads onto the front page other than the sidebar link unit.

Yes, without the relevant Ads showing your CTR will be dire. Well matched Ads will attract the clicks. With taregetted Ads and a decent layout you should easily reach a 5% CTR.

THis may be true, and may be not. I have all this enabled in my adsense account, and I can not reach ctr above 1 %. After many changing (themes, ad sizes, position etc.) I concluded that CTR is most related to content and website theme.
I tried to use CTR theme, Clickbump, Heatmap and many many others so called "high CTR" themes, and I didn't succeed in raising my CTR, it is always the same.

Lots of good advice here, ads should be relevant and you do have some control over that inside your adsense account.

Never underestimate the power of the mindset of your visitors. I have a site with a very crappy theme, and I have been extremely lazy on optimizing it for CTR... still gets a good ctr fairly consistently because its in a CLICK HAPPY NICHE.

just wanted to add that to the discussion.. some niches click ads some dont.. when you find a click happy niche build as many sites as you can in that niche, and your job becomes much easier.

I had more then one site whee I used a professional theme that looked impressive and professional and...CTR sucked.

I switched to a free plainer theme (Atahualpa) and more then doubled my CTR. I now use that theme on about 4 sites and it is doing better then the clickbump theme (yes I tried it) and some other professional ones...

yes it's crap lol, but depends on the niche. Some niches are great and click happy if the ads are relevant, but other niches are crap. I found if the niche is too micro less advertisers are spending in that space so less relevant ads appear, which does effect your CTR but there are so many factors that effects your CTR every circumstance is different.

As I said in this post
    http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...-any-size.html

I've had success with these 3 combos in these positions using a 2 column white wp theme.

336x280, top left in post (allow text & image ads)

468x15 Ad link , beginning of post (you only have text option)

160x 600 vertical in the right widget box (allow text ad only)

use Quick adsense plugin for in post ads automatically

Blend in the links to the match the rest of the page

Keep testing and tweak, don't talk my advise as gospel but it's a step in the right direction

Nice post and good advice, but what works for you doesn't mean it would work for someone else. For example, I had 160x600 skyscraper in my right sidebar (also 2 columns wp theme) and it had awful CTR. So I removed it.

Some of my blog have such low CTR. And I think it is the result of not researching keyword. You should research good keywords which have low competition and high Avg. CTR. And then start optimization your site using those keywords.

I don't care what ctr you have. Change your ads above the fold. You're going to get banned by Google with those ads placement.
My advice: Remove 1 336x280 rectangle above the fold. You need to show some content above the fold.
