Hi everyone! I am inquiring about what to do about my site to be competitive on the search engines. My adwords is "photos on canvas" which is very competitive. 165k searches per month. I have had my website online for around 1.5 years but the shopping cart didn't work so i never pushed my site (didn't have the money to get it fixed). Well i am going to do this full time as my living now and i need to have a strong online presence to survive. My new site should be live this friday hopefully and was curious on what is the best way to get my ranking up. A while ago a guy from WSI came to talk to me about SEO which his basic package was about $199 month. It went up from there. Would a basic package be enough to get into google with those words or am i going to have to do something else until i get more money. Any help on what to do or a good SEO company that you guys would recommend. Thanks

Josh

how about starting with things like a Facebook fan page, and running offers like a free canvas for the 1000th like or something. this'll get your backlink profile going and may draw in some business.

you could also do a press release, perhaps post on some photography forums and sneak a cheeky signature link back to your site.

there's tons you could do, just use your imagination.

Thanks for the help. So since i already have a facebook page that equals one backlink? So if i join a popular photography forum and have a link to my website in the signature like you mentioned is that considered a back link? Can you only get one back link per site or if i posted in multiple threads would that create multiple backlinks?

-manchunseo, when you mention a freelancer do you know any that you guys here would recommend? I read a few threads that talk about how most seo people don't do it correctly or something like that.

Also is ppc worth doing if you only have a little bit of money or is ppc campaigns only really efficient when you have a good amount of money to spend? Thanks everyone!

SEO is an ongoing process. one time work might not sustain for very long.

Find a good ebook on SEO at oreilly, amazon etc.

If you choose to go with an SEO service, make sure it is a registered company with address etc.

If you cannot find that and still wish to work with them, better opt to go for it via an escrow service like freelancer.com , elance etc. Else you might find that after the one time fee is paid, there are no replies to emails and no service.

the main idea is to get people talking about your site - in context, then hopefully let them do the linkbuilding for you. nothing wrong with getting more than one link from a single site.. just don't get them all from one site. multiple threads would increase your exposure, just don't be spammy.

as others have said.. eBay is a good place to sell - it already has traffic!

    photos on canvas actually gets:

    22,200 global monthly searches
    8,100 local monthly searches (US)

The 165K is the global broad match figure and is very misleading.

You are certainly right when you say it is a very competitive niche. It will take some time and effort to get ranked on page one.

Just be careful with what SEO services you choose. Make sure they are reputable and approach their SEO in a clean way (ie: not using spammy techniques to create low quality backlinks)
