Question About Backlink Report?

Quick question guys:
When I run a backlink report for one of my sites, I still see links that I have had removed quite a while ago. When I click on these links I get a "page not found" so I know that the links are gone but if they are gone, why do they still show up in my backlink report? Cheers.
