Hypothesis About the Latest Google Update
- SEO |
Three of the page that I did press releases for have vanished almost completely from Google. They're not deindexed - I can still find them if I look for the exact url.
Now, here's where it gets weird. When I search for the titles of the pages, these pages are outranked by their own pictures. They are also outranked by pages on other sites that linked to the original article, but use the same title.
In other words, Google appears to have simply eliminated the posts that had the press releases. The rest of my site seems relatively unaffected: it just applies to these articles themselves.
So, my hypothesis is that Google somehow considers certain backlinks spammy, and therefore has punished just those pages. Now, this may mean that my pages are Google dancing, and that Google has temporarily penalized them until it can recalibrate their ranking. Or, it may mean that these pages are gone forever.
I should mention that I put out a fourth press release for the site itself, and the main page doesn't seem to have been hurt. Perhaps it only applies to deep links?
I'm just glad I didn't put out more press releases .
