Adsense Ad Placement and Penguin

Hi.

Just wondering did the recent algo change took into consideration where the ad is placed on the webpage? Bearing in mind, the big square ad at the top has the greater click through rate but the less user friendly experience.

Just wondered because a couple of my sites that took a hit had these big ads at the top. Along with spammy links...

That was done some time back and if one was penalized at that time, he got the foot now!!

One site was number 3 but this week, it dissapeared onto page 5 or something stupid. I figure ad placement has nothing to do with it.

all of my adsense sites now i include the adsense block at the top but i wrap the content text around the adsense block as well though

i look at the penguin update as they want your sites to have super great content and the site needs to look great and professional

along with some other on site seo changes which are now very important

Hi there, I recently put up a website, very user friendly, images and all. I even purchased seo content so quality wouldn't be an issue. My website ranked on page 1 and everything seemed well, so I decided to put an adsense on it. I placed an ad below my first paragraph and another below my second paragraph. Now the ads have been completely removed, as if there were never there, and my website has lost rank to only God knows which page, where am I supposed to place these ads without getting punished?

I've read somewhere that there's an update from Google that penalizes sites showing ads above the fold.

yeah I have heard that too but my ads weren't above the fold, My website is pretty new so I haven't been building rank consistently, come to think of it, I might have build a link or 2 with the site being less then a month old, could that be the reason? Do we really get punished for building a couple of links with new sites? I understand if you build 1000 backlinks, but a few, come on Google, where is the love?

Penguin is a Google update to filter out spammy websites, Google want their websites to be more user based then search engine optimized. Basically you have to provide unique quality content bearing in mind factors such as structure and images. I understand their point, but sometimes a small error can get a well designed site to get punished and taken off their rank system.

The algorithm change that Google implemented with regards to ads was implemented in Januarry if my memory serves me correctly. The penguin update was also to combat over optimization such as too many links pointing to a website with exactly the same anchor text.
