Well in google Adward there is a indicator indicating competition level of a keyword. Should I care about this indicator? I think this indicator is just showing competition level using amount of webpages competing for the keywords. So I just need to look on traffic volume and then check competition for keywords using SEO Spyglass. Am I right?

Is google adward checking anchor texts, dofollow nofollow backlinks, PR of backlinks etc. when showing competition level for a keyword?

    1. Yes google adword tool show 3 types "low, medium and high" competitions. but you need good tool to check more in detail that how many backlinks your competitor have created on specific keyword. SEO Spyglass is also a good but you can also check ahrefs.com or majesticseo.com they both are good.

    2. Only google employee can answer this.

Yes. The competition category is referring to the amount of advertisers that are competing for that one keyword. This is important for you to know because you need relevant ads to be displayed in order to get a decent CTR. If the adwords competition is low, then you probably won't get many relevant ads.

I thought that low competition in the keyword tool meant that it would be an easy keyword to rank for. So I printed out a list and wrote good articles for 35 of the low competition keywords. LOL, I didn't realize that meant that there weren't many advertisers competing for that particular keyword. All my clicks pay crap!

Not really, The competition value shown on Google Adwords Tool, means how many advertisers are fighting for that keyword. If you plan to monetize your website using Adsense, then make sure to go after keywords with high competition value, this means many people are advertising on it, therefore you will get relevant ads and a higher CTR.

If you plan to rank for that keyword, you got to check the SERPs yourself, you could use Market Samurai, SEOQuake or any other tool you'd like, I personally like Traffic Travis as it would classify the competition into very easy, easy, medium, hard, etc...

Hope I helped you. Please let me know if there's anything I could help you with.

Of course, it's more important if you are going to display adsense ads on your site. That being said, if there aren't many advertisements for a keyword, there is probably a good reason for it. You need to find keywords with commercial intent, in order to make money online. That's why you should usually pick keywords with at least medium level adwords competition. Occasionally, there will be some untapped keywords that are extremely profitable. But for the most part, you want to pick keywords that already have proven commerciality.

Actually the competition level that adwords shows you has nothing to do with your competition competing for serps. The competition indicator simply indicates the amount of advertisers who are advertising (for those keywords) using Google ad words.

Of course, if a keyword has a high level of competition for PPC, that usually means its a highly sought after keyword, so you can bet that there are a lot of competition out there who are trying to rank for that keyword as well, but again it is not an exact indicator of competition for serps.

The competition value is not about SEO competition but if you are doing advertisement. Though if you are using adsense a high competition value is a good sign for you (higher payout).
