Do you ever use it and put blogs on it, for moneymaking purposes?
I do not really think its a blog they give you its more like a blog post, correct me if I am wrong.

I had about 4 of these already I made for my resort, checking back after a few months I see 300 page views on each, so they must be getting seen somewhere

I notice that the one guy ranking on longtails says he uses blogger but he says he uses "custom" domains which means he buys a domain. Why do that and host it through blogger? makes no sense

    1. its better for start, mostly newbie use blogger to learn how blogging plateform work and how to use them.

    2. not sure..

    3. Building backlinks for xyz.blogspot.com is risky. because google will not ask you to delete your blog, so thats why people use custom domains to save their link building work.

    Ya but
If you are going to buy custom domain
why not host it on your own host and upload WP to it
    seems easier and safer

    why let blogger host it

      I know how blogger works

I am asking why guys buy their own domain
and then host it on blogger or utilize their "custom domain" feature

why not if you go to the trouble and expense of buying a domain, host it yourself and upload wordpress and control the whole thing

why use blogger if you are using YOUR OWN domain you bought

Basically if you buy and host your own domain then it becomes your property, if you use your own blogspot domain and for some reason Blogger shut your account or you want to move the blog to Wordpress then it's going to be harder.

If they shut your account with your own domain then you simply go elsewhere with your exported blog, or if you want to move it - it's easy, just log into Wordpress and import it, then you need to run a script to change the urls and that's it.

Plus you can brand yourself and give yourself your own identity, or if you own a business and use Blogger then you don't look like a cheapskate.

I've encountered people who uses blogger for the purpose of saving hosting fees as there are times when their url on blogger/blogspot spike up with thousands of web visitors let say 10k in an hour especially with big events happening. If that site were hosted on shared hosting in some cases it cannot handle it and web hosting provider usually temporary put the site down while blogspot can still handle it.

When you create a blogger "blog"
    with
    blahblah.blogger.com

    Is that a blog?
or just a blog post? created on blogger?

It's a regular blog, just the same as If you created a sub-domain on your own domain (example, myblog.mydomain.com).

The reason people buy their own $10 domain name is to make the URL look like a regular domain instead of a sub-domain of blogspot. The reason they don't use their own hosting is, the hosting cost money, blogger is simple to use, that's what their used to running.

It's a blog, not a blog post. But a limited one. There is only so much customization you can do with it. I have a few blogger blogs that I setup in the early days, they make anywhere from $ 1-50 a day. The risk with it is it's owned by google so if you piss them off then you could loose everything in an instant. Still, I find it great for informational Adsense sites. Not so good for chasing product based revenue.

It is OK to use blogger if you are not intended to make money. These days blogger blogs sometimes get deleted without any reason.

You work hard to rank and then it gets deleted. All effort is wasted!!

I haven't heard of that happening. Don't they tell you a reason if a blog gets deleted?

The powerful thing about blogger is that it has a stronger ranking power. I've created a blogspot blog targetting the same keyword as on my site and it outranked my site even without building any backlinks. The ranking power of blogger is insane.

Well, blogger is a blogging platform, you can use it for blogging but it has given less seo value, hard to rank in Google.

So I would like to go for own domain and hosting for better result.

That isn't true. It's easier to rank in Google than domain/hosting.

All of my blogger blogs do well as soon as they go through the transition from blogspot.com to custom domain they start to bring in traffic right away.
