ok, so say i want to target the keyword "australian doctors" but australiandoctors.com, .org and .com.au etc are all taken but not being used that well...

if i register theaustraliandoctors.com.au does the "the" detract from the keyword rich domain??

    doctors was an example .... will be another proffession with high searches (but saying that doctors is searched quite a lot so not sure what your point is??!!)

    Dont worry dude, if your keyword is "travel to india" and you buy traveltoindiav.com, is ok.

    Google will take only your keyword and leave the "v"

    I'm not sure, I've always wanted to know the answer to this. I was told that the 'the' does not retract from the domain and I know a certain person who only buys domains with 'the' before the main domain for this great reason:

    'For when Hollywood makes a film with your domain, they will pay you for it' Some would say - deluded!

    The impact of exact match domains is going to become less and less so I wouldn't sweat about it too much.

    I really didn't think that an article such as "the" or "a" in a domain really mattered. I think it helps you gain leverage on a lesser-competitive key phrase.

    Its not so much Google you should worry about. Ranking a domain without your keywords in it is not much more difficult than ranking one containing your keywords. Be aware of branding though, if someone is going to hand out that domain name it looks funny and a smaller, easier to remember name may be best. You could always redirect a smaller, easier to remember domain over to the SEO one though. Say for printed ads and things.

    "the" isn't seen as important and is generally left out when generating SERPS. So if you can register "theaustraliandoctors.com.au" that would be best from an SEO standpoint.
