Hello,

Running an authority domain. (Soon to be Amazon Affil no monetization YET til I get higher SERP and traffic, product reviews and lifestyle blog). Got several dozen posts up.

Now I realize I need some LEGIT backlinks. I'm not doing blog commenting or anything like that, seeing how those algo's change so often... I'd like to do some guest posting.

How do you formally request to be a guest poster? I'm targetting PR3-6 blogs who are already established in their niche. Their niches I guess would be called "brother and sister" niches compared to mine, of the same interests but different topics. (Example: If my niche was swimming, they'd be cycling or running, etc).

Do you say "Hey I have this website, I would like to make a guest post using the information I have on [my niche]." ?

How do you do it?

What I would do is contact the webmaster and offer free unique content to their blog in exchange of a couple of links. I would show some previous articles to let them know I am serious about it.

In my experience, targeting blogs according to their pageranks is not longer valid for getting a good link. I would prefer targeting a blog with hightraffic and relevance.

By the way, blog commenting still works as long you provide good comments.

Find some sites you would like to write for and send the webmaster an email. Some will allow you to submit your content with a linkback and some may not allow the link. Just ask! Its the best way.

Don't mention anything about backlinks or getting anything out of the deal in the first email.

Go to the website and read their submission guidelines and actually follow them. Most popular blogs get hit up by idiots trying to get guest posts all the time.

Briefly say who you are, mention your website with some links to your best posts so they can see your work. Pitch them a couple ideas for content the blogger would really love to have on their site.

Make sure the topic hasn't already been covered.

More than getting backlinks, the point of guest posting is to get subscribers and traffic. Which means you should submit nothing but your best work.

I've seen it in SEOMOZ, though it may be a long process, I think it could still help you with guest posting.

Your top priority with guest posting should be to bring value to the host blog and its readers. You should be willing to write the post purely for the publicity and goodwill it creates for you, not just for the pure search engine rankings.

Would you provide the guest post if the link was no-followed? What about no link at all?

Myguestblog will give you tonnes of opportunities but it's up to you to make the most of them. I put a classified ad on there once for guest post on my weight loss site. I explained the market, the 3000visitors per day and the type of posts my readers love - engaging, entertaining, and actionable content. No even let people send in posts they'd used elsewhere.

Instead of getting people wanting to take advantage of my traffic many just wanted to posts poorly written generic articles about irrelevant stuff like health insurance policies, even some about pets and car hire companies. No one took the opportunity to create content that would turn my readers I to their readers.

As a blog owner who was looking for guest posts, this lack of effort really turned my off and the posts never got accepted. I'm sure other blog owners have thought the same.

Show you are a writer and have something of use for the blog's readers and they should respond well. If I had a guest writer who got good results then I would have given them the opportunity to write a post each week. There will be opportunities like that fr you too. Myguestblog is s great starting point.
