Once and for all. A guide for newbies to START TODAY.

If you are like me, and a beginner at online marketing, you might be wondering what the "basics" of online marketing might be.

When you learn to write a story, you learn the dramatic structure. When you learn the drums, you learn the rudiments.
And when you want to learn how to make money online, you learn basic methods to get traffic.

I haven't done anything with online marketing yet, but I would like to just lay out all the things I have researched and learned so far.

Now that is it summer break, I would like to implement the following, which I think is the basics of making money online:

If I had to explain online marketing in one sentence, it would be "Bringing in targeted traffic to your website, and making them perform a desired action".

So where can you get targeted traffic?

There are many sources of traffic, and the most popular one here at WF is Google.

Getting traffic from Google is good because the people who come to your website gets there because of the search terms they have used. This means that your traffic is already targeted.

And once they get to your website, you can lead them to your squeeze page, or click on your adsense ads etc.

How can you rank your website on Google?

Google's algorithm is a secret, but many brave SEO's have figured out what works and what doesn't over the years.

So basically there are two type of optimization for your website.

One is on-page optimization, which is pretty basic straightforward stuff. You can just Google it to see what it is. If you look around SEOMoz's blog you can probably find a pretty good post about it.

The other is getting backlinks. Other websites have to link to your webpage in order for you to rank on Google!
You can't be in this business if you are a hermit!
You are going to have to network with other webmasters, or create AWESOME SHARABLE content in order to get backlinks! This is a creative endeavor! A lot of deep thinking will be involved.

Once your webpage is ranked for the keyword you desire, you WILL be getting quality traffic.

Once you have traffic, you have to somehow convince your audience to do a certain action by using copywriting, design, etc.

Online marketing is so deep but I feel like I've only just scratched the surface of it. A lot of experienced online marketers are probably saying "NO ****" to what I have just wrote, but for beginners, this will be giving them a clue of what they are headed towards.

So here it is, here is the basics of money making that I will implement.
