Question for GSA Auto SoftSubmit Users

I'm thinking of getting GSA Auto SoftSubmit, for backlinks rather than 'real' software distribution.
I've looked at old threads on the forum where people have said they've had good results doing this, but I don't know if it's still possible as GSA open their sales letter with a threat that they'll cancel licences of people who use the software for building backlinks.
Does anyone have any experience in this regard? Is it just an empty threat, or do they enforce it? They mention 'low quality' software, what kind of software can you get away with?
