Changing backlink anchor text?

If you edit the anchor text of backlinks pointing to your site, will the new anchor text get updated by the search engines or will they just use the anchor text which was used when the backlink was first indexed.

I changed the anchor text on some backlinks a couple of weeks ago, but when I recently went to Bing Webmaster tools to create a spreadsheet of the backlinks, the anchor text is the same as before and isn't changed to the new anchor text.

It may time some time, but the search engines should notice the change and update accordingly I believe. That's more a guess than a fact, but it just makes sense.

It should get updated sooner or later. How fast it gets updated will depend on how often the page with the backlink gets spidered .

It'll change. How long it takes depends on the quality of the link. Forum profiles, for example, may take a LONG time to get indexed / "scanned" by Google. But a link from a quality page can be updated pretty quickly.

You can not rush it as much as you want to. I am not sure how often Bing webmaster tools even get updated.

As soon as search engine bots read those updated web pages they shall update their index accordingly this is how search engine works and updates themselves.

It is better to use different keyword for anchor text and the keyword. Since it helps in ranking for both the keywords.

Are you optimizing for Bing? If you are, maybe you shouldn't worry about Penguin that much then.

But if you are optimizing for Google, why use Bing Webmaster Tools? Oh, perhaps you are using the like of yahoo site explorer... Well, then, you could try to check your backlinks with other tools and see what you get.

Besides, what Bing has in its index and what they show in Webmaster tools could be different things. The data there is probably not as fresh as in their index.

My thought on bing is it has less then 20% of the market share because it index less then 20% of a site. I have over 500 pages of content and yet it only shows 70 something, I gave up on them along time ago. If you think Google is slow though, Bing can take months to spider something.
