What is going to be better from an SEO standpoint?

I have the keyword phrase I want in my domain but would it be better or a penalty to put the index.html in another directory also keyword loaded with the same phrase?

Had to delete the URL entries as one of them was causing a 414 error in my stat reports......

Always go for the shortest domain if possible. By having the domain routed inside a folder then you run the risk of people forgetting or not knowing how to reach your page. You can also post a redirect, but if you're SEO optimizing, try to stick with one (I'd recommend the shorter, hyphenated version)

I don't think it would necessarily be a penalty to the search engine crawlers, but to the human brain, it might be.

Right, but I almost rely exclusively on organic se results so the higher in the rankings the better. They are only clicking the title link and not typing the address.

I am wondering if this would place higher in the results.....

Since I am mainly dealing with affiliate sites I would not expect much repeat or typed in traffic. Hopefully they visit and buy
