When I started blogging, the easiest way for me is through linkreferral and forum posting. I also make comment on other blogs.

Forum postings are the easiest way to get quickly indexed backlinks although they're not considered quality backlinks. But you can draw temporary but extremely targeted traffic with posting in forums. Commenting on blogs has lost its luster; every blog seems to be nofollow these days.

Definitely setup some SEO WordPress plugins so you can start getting organic traffic. You should also start getting some traffic from your signature on this forum and I suggest putting your link in other forums as well

^ this is the best advice here so far. The best way to get traffic is to write stunning content i.e. content that has some of the following qualities:

1. useful
2. different
3. valuable
4. controversial
5. new ideas

One was is to do what you're doing now. Posting in niche related forums. As an example, I get anywhere from 25-40 visitors a day from my sig here @ the WF. Nothing mind blowing, but it's very targeted traffic that converts well.

Submit your blog to all blog directories you will get traffic daily.
And you can get good traffic from facebook and orkut by sharing your links.
Using pages in facebook and in forums of orkut.

Viral marketing is one of the best ways to get easiest and good amount of traffic. But the only condition you need to satisfy is, it should be successful! The image/video or text with link should go viral and unless that happens you cannot get good traffic. You might just try few techniques such as social bookmarking, blog commenting and forum posting to get decent traffic.

As said previousley , content is king, here is a handy piece of software that creates content for you and then you can submit it to the article directories after you have proofed it.
I would also look at facebook, its not going away even though talk in the US seems to think it will, look at creating good quality content on a facebook fanpage and ask questions when posting to try and get more involvment with your audience which also in return will get you higher up in edge ranking, what facebook call page ranking.

Sigh... Look, if you are talking about the blog in your sig, then you have got into a ridiculously competitive space, plus your blog is just way too general - the subjects just vary too much, from mobile apps to blog plugins. You are actually NARROWING your niche by doing that, because how many people are interested in BOTH those subject areas?!

To get traffic to any blog what you need first and foremost is content that people actually want to read, plus a personality that people want to follow (anonymous blogs just don't work). How are you going to do that as a newbie - that is what you have to decide.

Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to discourage you, but this is the brutal truth - you will thank me later: give up on this "general niche" and find one that you are really knowledgeable about and can build up a personal presence in - then you won't have to worry about traffic, it will come. I am not saying you won't get SOME random search traffic blogging on general subjects like this, but you probably won't get SUBSCRIBERS, which is what a blog really needs.

Oh and go and delve back in the archives of someone's blog, like Darren Rowse (about 3 or 4 years ago, before his blog became mostly guest posts) - there is a whole encyclopaedia of good information about blogging in there.

At the end of that day though, a new blog has got to be REALLY good to succeed - most blogs fail, it's the hard truth.

I will say again, forget all this advice about posting on forums and suchlike, that's all fine and dandy, but how many new subscribers or at least return visitors did you get since you started this thread on this forum? Thought so...

For a successful blog you need a FOLLOWING - end of story. If put yourself in the shoes of your potential readers and you can't think why they would keep coming back to your blog every day (think: valuable information), then you won't get anywhere.

Start by adding new content each day (or as soon as you can!) and submit to Social Media sites (digg, stumbleupon, twitter, facebook, reddit, etc.) and take part in some good forums. This will work for you in the beginning, I am sure!
