Jeez... So you're new to SEO?!

If you search this forum you'll be able to find loads of good info. A recipricol link is where you link to someone elses site, and in return they link back to your site. A few years ago Google devalued these so people generally concentrate on obtaining quality one way links.

Reciprocal Links still work, its just that they are not as valuable as one-way links..

Another type of link is the "3 way link".

This is when site A links to site B, and B links to C and C links back to A

      Hope this helps

    Hi,

My observation says that reciprocal link exchange is not helping much more in terms of getting traffic. And, I also don't think that it helps to improve ranking.

Google likes links to your site better when you don't link to the sites that link to you. In other words, you can kind of view it as the two links cancelling each other out. Your goal should be to gain one-way links into your site, not exchanging links with other sites. Good, useful content is a good way to get one-way links. As you gain links, your site will begin to be viewed as an authority on your topic and will gradually work it's way up the search engine results.

^^^ this is how I understand linking to work as well.

Reciprocal links work fine so long as the page that the link to your site is on, does not contain a lot of other links. Moreover, the site linking to your own should be similar in content.
