Hi,

What is Black Hat SEO and what is white Hat SEO, Does both are opposite to each other as the name suggested?

    As you said opposites sides of the same coin:

    1. Black Hat SEO. They will use anything to improve volume and quality of Internet traffic: link farms, keyword stuffing, etc. In other words, unethical means to reach that purpose.

    2. White Hat SEO. They will stick by the book.

        Yeah, if Google catches you black hatting, they will usually de-index you site.

          There is a very fine line between white hat(WH) and black hat (BH)

          The purest will have you believe that any method you use to help your site's rankings is BH. So the mear fact that you put your main keyword in the title is deemed by some to be BH

          Ask any 10 SEO people what the defininition of BH vs WH is and I'd bet you get 11 different answers..

          There is no "cut and dried" answer to the question.

          Some say to simply follow BigG TOS, but as BigG seems to change the TOS as they wish, then this means that the definition of BH and WH changes as well..

          I know this doesn't really answer your question, becuase there is no answer.

    Black hat normally refers to webmasters who will make their websites link to linkfarms and some automated stuffs that are deemed unethical.
    While White Hat means you are following what is deemed to an honest human made site and contents that has value and just stuffing sites with keywords to get you to front page.

    everything in moderation, you over use a white hat tactic that can become spammy borderline blackhat

    personally i believe you need to know about all aspects of SEO both ethical and unethical - know your enemy!

    The way I define it is

    Black hat - Does things that are illegal or at least highly unethical to build traffic and to make sales, including hacking other people's sites, distributing malware and so forth.

    Gray hat - Uses techniques that play fast and loose with Google's rules but doesn't do anything illegal or that might directly damage other people's sites or computers. This is a pretty broad area.

    White hat - Stays entirely within Google rules, almost to a fault.
