Thanks

Stop thinking in terms of what CMS is the best for SEO... You'd better start thinking about what actually needs to be done for your on-page SEO: site map, H tags, quality content, permalinks, etc... All this can be done regardless of your platform.

Do you use Facebook ? Then you can make money just by inviting people to a Facebook group ! It's called the Instant Income System. How cool is that?

I agree with you that onpage and offpage isn't effected by the platform you're using. But to start with, there must be some plugins or modules which makes it easier to optimize. I am little bit confused between drupal and wordpress.

Yeah boy! Actually, blogspot has exactly what google wants as far as a
blog's "SEO" goes. Built-in by google, for google.

Wordpress is a terrible CMS. Maybe people should just read the
forum here. Countless WP threads on, "How do I ..."

The best CMS anyone can do is their own. Learn html, php,
steal a few javascripts, etc. NOTHING could be better for
the average person's website. And if you really needed something
else, you'd be big enough to hire coders or installing
      custom scripts.

Incidentally, the only php line I ever really use is <?php include...

I've said it many times. You can do wordpress all day long. But
if you are lazy, clueless, impatient,.... that's the first step
to failure. If you really want to be a webmaster, and you
should be, not just an "IMer," learn the ins and outs of a
webpage. It will pay off mightily in the end.

Exactly Paul, that order of learning has payed off for me in 2 years time, understanding the ins & outs, slowly covering every area Actually i recommend learning the basics of a script, a website and everything else that you see online relevant to your business and focus, try understanding what is being done and how competition and other sites are achieving those things you see, ads you click, optins you use, links being build or services being used or whatever else is relevant. Applying stuff along the way in combination with always planning ahead and setting detailed targets will pay off in every way.

    Another vote for Wordpress here.

However, you should be mindful of the speed of your site. It's an important, often overlooked reason why sometimes visitors don't stick around and search engines don't like your site.

Only add plugins where you have to, if there is a way to hard code something into your theme instead, then try that. As an example, there are loads of social media plugins, but they KILL your page load speed, so limit the amount of social plugins you use to as few as possible.

^^ WP has countless features that can save you tons of time and money (if you were to have them all custom done). It makes absolutely no business sense whatsoever to re-invent the wheel. Or learn html and hire designers to get custom websites up (in most cases).

If anything, going through WP tutorials and learning how to implement a few mods here and there is the most logical option. It's a great CMS, extremely easy to modify and simple to learn.

There are countless WP "how to..." threads, because WP is extremely popular. Force everyone to build their own html sites and see how many "how to..." threads you get then.

WP has enabled anyone to build a good looking website and put it online fast. That's a good thing. NOT everyone cares about super-clean code or knowing the ins and outs of coding a site. And they have absolutely no reason to, because they're business people (some online, others offline, some might only need a virtual business card and a contact form), not coders.

WP is an amazing platform. Saying that it isn't is extremely narrow-minded. Reminds me of "old school" PHP coders who hate frameworks, lol.

edit: this is all about having some common sense.

Using WP a broke webmaster can get a custom design done and coded for $199, no problems editing posts and making them look gorgeous, no problems setting up beautiful sign up forms, engaging in a discussion with your readers, etc. Anything you want to do can be achieved with a few free plugins and maybe 10-20 hours learning to edit basic PHP/HTML.

Now doing it yourself - HTML. Yeah, good luck. A design can be bought for the same $199, but the rest is going to be a royal pain in the ass (unless you pay someone). Things like comments, user profiles, easy post editing/formatting, yea... good luck accomplishing all that in 10 or even 40 hours. And what a joke if anyone really believes that a person doing it all by himself would somehow benefit from this financially (unless they're a coder) or have fewer "how to..." questions, lol.

Oh and don't forget all of the resources, such as free and paid ($20-$50 for a gorgeous, well coded theme)themes/plugins that are available for WP users.

WP is a CMS and can be used to create any structure you like. It's a content management system, hurr durr.

Drupal has it's advantages, but only when working on more complex projects. If you want a simple website, learn how to structure WP properly. Again, it's a CMS, not some sort of ready made website solution. You can turn it into whatever you like, while still being able to edit content/comments/etc through a convenient control panel.

I strongly believe that CMS is IRRELEVANT if just for the sake of SEO.
I choose what CMS to use depends on what type of website I'm about to make. If it is a MNS or 10-15 pages product review site or simply a blog, I mostly went with blogger.
But my magazine type site is using wordpress (that was after the joomla got hacked. Might be not joomla fault, might be me & my coder's lack of knowledge. But, whatever, I just switched to wordpress, and doing just fine until now).

And whatever bnetwork got to say up there, not even the slightest thing concerning SEO.

WTF, dude. Every one of those 100 sites is in HTML. No matter what the CMS is the end product is always going to be HTML, because HyperText Markup Language is the language that browsers read.

This is why you hear comments like "the CMS doesn't matter for SEO". Unless the CMS is a total piece of garbage (those do exist, of course) you can just edit the template to optimize the site. WordPress has no magical SEO powers, and the nice SEO plugins just add a few lines of code that you can also add to another decent system in a couple of minutes.

If someone really reads these comments - sure doesn't seem like it - you can safely disregard everyone mindlessly praising some CMS over the others. It doesn't really work that way in the real world. There's good SEO practitioners who tell techies what to do, and systems that are hacked into submission.

WordPress is ok for SEO, but your chosen theme is very important part of the puzzle. Every theme I've used recently has been marvelous, but I only use certain carefully selected vendors. Then there's the SEO plugin, but those don't actually do that much. The better themes of today are capable of achieving the same SEO benefits. Also I know about four SEO plugins that I suspect are equal in terms of delivery.

The best SEO features in WordPress core are these: well-working friendly URLs implementation, easy to edit slugs, and automatic redirection from old to new address. Not exactly rocket science.

Wordpress is going to be your easiest platform to build, maintain and optimize your new website.

You don't need a ton of plugins to get started.

    -- Google XML sitemap
-- All In One SEO or equivalent (some themes already have SEO tool built in)
-- Pretty Links to create redirects if selling affiliate products

That's all you really need for your Wordpress site. Other people will give you 20 more tools to make themselves sound smart, but this is all you really need.

    1.) Wordpress

    3.) Joomla

As for the 3 main ones, thats the order I would rank them in SEO favorability. Wordpress is just overall optimized well and has great plugins. (Yoast/SEO All-In-One, etc.)
