hey everyone,

i have a big doubt running in mind

i am planning to submit my customer website in 70 high pr (pr5-pr8) paid directories and planning to spend $4k in submitting his sites, but i few doubt

  1. Is it really beneficial ? or will it put any negative effect ?
  2. Google or any search engine do not allow paid link so submitting sites to directories also considered as buying links ?
  3. is it worth submitting site one time to 70 high pr (pr5-pr8) paid directories or to submit in 300 free directories every month ?
any more suggestions will be highly appreciated.

I think that this move will have the desired effects, the problem is that Google might catch up with these kind of directories and deindex them (same thing happened to some private blog networks). Will this have a positive effect in terms of traffic? Obviously, higher ranking, more traffic. Does buying links is contrary to the Terms of Service? You bet it is!

Google does not have a problem with paying to be included in a directory. If they did, they would not give any weight to Yahoo's directory that costs $299 to submit to.

Whether or not it is worth it depends entirely on the directories and the pages where your submission will show up on.

To be honest with you, I heard that Google does not like paid links and I never tried about it. I would suggest to go ahead with PAID links as well as normal backlinks parallel at same time to avoid any issues from our big "G" (Google). That may be a safeguard

However, $4k budget is huge, I guess, those directories may drive more traffic compare to Google. But, search engines like Google may bring you more target traffic compare to other traffic sources (I guess).

Do submissions over the time (say 1-2 a day) and then it should not have any bad effect from SEO point but the chances are you will get high PR as well as relevant traffic to your site.

Save your money. There are not 70 directories worth submitting to. You'd be luckly to find 7 general ones that are within Google's guidelines.

Just because a directory is PR5-PR8 doesn't make it worthwhile.

Its a bit late this is two weeks old...but just in case I'll add 2 cents.

I don't think you should. I think it would be better to do a few of them that are good, such as Yahoo, Dmoz, dmegs, Jayde, Joe Ant, and some others that are related to the field. I've seen some great real estate directories for instance. Do a background check on their competitors and see what directories they have links in. Pursue some of those.

Do the above and save 60-70% of that dough and put it to good use. Those sorts of links can only get you so much, you've got to create some genuine traction at some point.
