Another Cool Facebook Tip...

...So, last time I shared a little Facebook trick to help with getting more "likes" to your fanpage. Today, I thought I'd share another quick tip. Now, this tip is not really a ninja/samurai/master trick... it's quite simple, and yet, very effective... here goes.

Let's say you want to promote a certain article/blog post on FB. You insert it onto your page and ask your readers to share it. That's obviously the first step. What I see many people dong after this step, is posting that same link onto the walls of other fanpages within the same niche, right?

Now I'm not saying this strategy doesn't work, it actually works quite well if done correctly and the post is congruent with the fanpage itself, but in most cases it doesn't have the desired effect. The reason is simple, the visitors/fans of that page rarely want to read or share another person's message or link. Some respond, but most don't.

Another option...
You see, I love the idea of permission marketing. I like to implement it into everything I do online. Using this concept to promote your article/website/video... can be very effective. How I would use it to promote my content on another persons fanpage...

It's just a simple process of opening up "notepad" and writing a swipe message/file. This message is directed to fanpage owners and it's a message asking them to promote your content for you. You use the same message to send to many page owners. Of course this is not rocket science, but it's how you approach owners of these pages that makes all the difference.

Create a compelling message telling them you have a great blog post that you think their audience will really enjoy. Let them know that you didn't want to post the content without asking their permission as you really don't like to spam other people's pages simply for promotional purposes. Ask them if they have any content you could share on your wall.

If done correctly, the owner of that fanpage should have absolutely no problem promoting your link for you. They will be happy to do it. Now, how much more of a response is your link going to get when placed onto the page by the owner, instead of some random stranger? Not to mention, you can build relationships with fanpage owners and get them to promote any new article or post you have written for your website. If you get this right, you will not only have them place a link on their page, they will most likely ask their followers to share it.

It's a very simple strategy and many of you may be using it already, if so, what are your stats? has it worked well for you?

In most cases, you cannot get any traffic by posting links on pages you don't own, because it just goes into the spam filter, and doesn't appear on the page. This could work, asking them to share it for you. It might be worth trying if they have like a million likes, and you do as well. I prefer Twitter generally.

A better way is to find unmoderated groups in and
around the niche, and post away! Fan pages
      are mostly junk...

Nothing beats twitter, however. Facebook is really
a very low level way of getting traffic. In fact,
      it's pretty lousy.

If you post to a fan page you don't own (correct me if I am wrong on this, it may not be true for all pages), your post ends up in the "secondary" area reserved for fan "discussions" and hardly anyone will see it, whereas if the owner posts your link on the wall it shows up in the feed of all the however-many-thousand fans of the page. So big difference.
I agree, fan page traffic is lousy, but you should only be using it to try to kickstart a viral anyway. That's where it can be really powerful, but you have to have something shareable, not your article about iron bedsteads.
