What's wrong with Google Keyword Tool?

I just did a simple search for "how to" in Google Keyword Tool, in order to see what people are searching for.
I'd thought I'd see results like "how to play guitar, or "how to lose weight" and so on.. I thought I would get a huge list!

But instead I only get 10 results.

[how to]
[www(dot)ehow(dot)com] (sorry, can't post links yet)
[how to videos]
[home theatre]
[howto.com]
[home theatre computer]
[in home theatre]
[computer home theatre]
[top 10 home theatre]
[the best home theatre]

?
Why can I not see what people are looking for?
Can I not use Google keyword tool to find this out?

    Settings are "exact", and "only show ideas closely related to my search terms" is NOT ticked.
    Location= US
    language= english

    I'm pretty sure your search is completely broad and google can't take what you are looking for into context.

    You can type in "what the" for example and get 20+ results. While you can type in "what the heck" and get your 100 results.

    Be more specific I suppose.

    SEO is in my blood. So much so I will give the occasional free quick analysis whenever I feel like it. For the most part though, I'm a newb outside of SEO.

    If you're going to do that, I would recommend starting out by using Google search first, and then, breaking down the niches using the Google keyword tool.

      It's funny, I saw a video where a guy did exactly what I did. The result he got were huge. It was neatly showing all the "how to" things we're searching for.
      I must say it was a previous version of the keyword tool.

      But if this new version works like this, it's pretty useless (for this purpose).

    If you're not logged into your Google account I know it gives you less results, but that seems a bit too few...

    I'm definitely logged in...
    How many results do YOU get?

    Could this be due to my locality?

      Yeah, just did the search with 'how to' and got a total of 7 results for the filters 'United States', 'English' & 'Deskopts & Laptops'. Not sure what to tell you there...strange.
