Backlinking for Beginners

Hello Warriors!

Okay, folks, a couple of newbie questions. Please bear with me!

I've got a travelogue up at KoreaConnection[dot]net. At this point I'm using the site as way to learn/experiment with best practices. I might try to monetize it later.

What I'm interested in doing is driving more free traffic to the site via backlinking. I think I grok the basic details: Post content on web directories, Web 2.0 properties, etc and have those sites link back to my main site.

Two questions:

1) Do I want to have these articles, addition blogs, etc link back to various pages on my site? I don't want them all linking back to my homepage, right?

2) Should I use keywords as links in these articles and blogs? Or should I mix it up?

For example, I've got an article up on the site about Chiaksan (a mountain range in Korea.)

The article is currently 8 or 9 in Google search and I want it in the top 3.

To make this happen should I build backlinks to this page using the keyword "Chiaksan"? If I'm only creating, say, 5 or 6 backlinks to this page do I need to vary the word that links back to the site?

Thanks a bunch!

    1. Your backlinking should be of your main page and other pages that make up your site. Each page should have its own set of backlinks and dont make the text that backlinks to each post exactly the same. If you use google's keyword tool for your main keyword you will be able to find other close related like keywords you can use as well.

    2. Keywords but dont use the same mix them up and build them slowly. What really sets off a red flag is 200 backlinks one day then 2 or none over the next few days if you stick with a few each day you will continue to build a solid keyword base and SEO traffic

    1) Main Page and Deep Linking
    2)Randomize your anchor text

I'd also recommend you use high quality backlinks for your website. Also use various kinds of various PR strengths. Make the link building look as natural as possible and make sure the building is steady.
