#2 ranking site disappeared...

Looking to see if anyone has experienced this, heard of this or understands this...

I have a site that is designed for 2 keywords. It ranked #2 for both keywords on Yahoo/Bing for the past 3 months. Before that, it was top 5 for the 6 months prior to that.

All of a sudden it is gone. It doesn't appear anywhere.

Even when I search the domain name it doesn't show.

One of the odd things is that when searching the domain name, some of the sub pages comes up. The about page, contact page, etc.

It has been 2 1/2 weeks now with no return.

I would understand a change in ranking but to totally disappear makes no sense to me.

I can not give the name of the url as it is a very narrow niche and brings a significant amount of income.

    I had the exact same thing happen to me with one of my sites. Although my home page did reappear in the search engines about 3 weeks after the problem first started. I could not figure it out. The only site changes that I made were a few software upgrades (wordpress) and some design changes.

    oddly enough after testing with another site, this seemed to be what caused the problem. Perhaps it is the same for you.

    If not, you might want to check if you have been black listed for any reason.

      I had the same experience about 2 weeks ago, my home page had gone from #9 to outside top 150, but I had about 15 internal pages in top 50. This happened after upgrading wordpress and some plugins (though only come to mind after reading this thread).

      Never considered wordpress to be the issue, been checking for broken links and where backlinks are coming from. I don't outsource for this site other than the odd articles each month when pushed for time.

      Now my home page is back at #2!

    I dont think it would be black listed as the sub pages are still showing.

    I have seen other sites disappear and then re-appear but it has been in a few days. I was actually #1 for about 5 days when the #1 site completely disappeared.

    I made no changes.

    Do you have duplicate content on the site or low quality pages? Check for tag pages indexed in Google. This is a common mistake I see a lot. Also happens frequently with ecommerce sites.

    I do not have low quality pages on the site. It had been consistently moving up for the past year.

    It does have one page that is duplicate content from another site I own but it is not on the main page.

    Ok so I did a search on Yahoo using the "site:" function.

    It listed all of the sub-pages first and then it did list the home page.

    However, it shows the string /?vm=r at the end of the address.

    ex. http://www.MyDomainHere.com/?vm=r

    I can't find anything about this and was wondering if anyone has ever seen it before.

    I've noticed this with Bing/Yahoo. It seems they have a totally different ranking algorithm than Google. I believe this is due to their data not being synchronized within their database as they have thousands of servers.
