On my fight to deoptimize my site after penguin slap,
one of the webmasters I contacted told me this:

"Links with no follow attribute do not transfer link value or anchor text" The webmaster also said that WMT shows the "nofollow" attribute when its the case.

Is this true?

No one can say for certain except for google employees but based on what google have said and what seems to be common SEO knowledge... yes, it's true.

However, just because nofollow links don't pass on link juice, it doesn't mean they're not important. If google were looking for unnatural link patterns I would assume that only having dofollow links would appear somewhat unusual.

I believe that nofollow links are just as important to get than dofollow links in some instances.
Google likes to see natural link building so they can't hurt.

post penguin.. mixture of do follow and no follow links have high importance. so only do follow back links are not important and its not like no follow back links have no importance.
