That's only my opinion, but EMDs aren't that great. If your domain name is "ehowtogetridofacne.com", you are pretty much limited to writing about acne. But the health niche has so much more to offer.

Personally, i would more trust an authority website with a great URL like "www.justbehealthy.com"

Well google penalize a bunch of EMD sites since FEB/2012. The EMD stands for exact match domain. Its not working good, and google do not like over optimization of sites. It reward those efforts that seems to be natural.

Interesting, do you have any evidence of this?

I haven't been penalized. I think you are following something that is wrong.

If you are targeting a specific keyword and the website is focused on that 1 single subject matter, then having an exact match domain name (EMD) will be beneficial. More so for the search-users perception of relevance to their search than anything.

Note Google makes a point of highlighting keyword matches in its returned search results, further grabbing the users eyeballs. While having an EMD may or may not affect ranking these days (I personally believe it does), I certainly believe that will improve clickthroughs.

If your website is targeting a niche and not a specific search string or brand/model then it would make more sense to use domain name that supports your niche, as trytolearnmore has suggested.

In short, get a domain name that tell your user exactly what your site is about in as few words as possible.

I think that with the over optimization part of the Google Penguin update, a EMD is not as powerful as it once was and going into the future it probably is better to just build a brand that will be recognized in that niche.

For me, it always comes down to one question, regardless of whether Google likes EMDs or not:

Which domain is my visitor likely to come back to on his own (repeat visitor), all other things being equal: bestowersawreviews.com or petespowertools.com?

I can see that EMDs are still ranking well for many keywords in SERP. Thus working with EMD shall be good idea.

Don't think too much into it (EMD) and focus on the content, backlinks, etc. Even if you have an EMD, you aren't guaranteed top positions because of it. What matters is what you put on the site and if people visit it.
