why does backlink is necessary for SEO?

I can't understand clearly that, why does so many backlink necessary to increase my PR, What will Google do with my backlink? I only do onpage SEO for my website, I regularly do 30 backlinks for my site, but even after 30 days they doesn't show any effect on my site, I wanna answer.:confused::confused::confused:

Backlinks or link juice are basically votes of how reliable and useful your content is to users.

A basic summary can found by Google backlink juice or why backlinks important, etc

The more links - the more popular your website use to be - this was the trend for quite some trend

Rankings are determined by your trust which comes from backlinks. Onpage SEO is just a tiny piece of the puzzle.

Search engines show results in SERP with the help of three things. They are importance,relevancy and popularity. And you need relevant links to improve rank.

A link pointing to your site is basically a vote from the site saying you are a reputable website. The more votes you have the better. However, if the vote comes from a bad website, it is not worth as much. Likewise, if the vote comes from an extremely reputable website, it has much more value.

So the more high quality links pointing to your site, the more authority Google thinks you have, thus the higher they rank you.

Think of the search engines as a popularity contest. The more people that link to you, the more popular your site must be. Google assumes that this popularity must mean that other people want to see it too.
