I recently received a recommendation from an SEO company to use cloaking on my affiliate links. I currently use the nofollow attribute.

I'm pretty sure Goggle doesn't like cloaking (sneaky redirects)?

What do you other warriors think?

There's absolutely no reason to cloak the links. Honestly.

Nofollowing them simply makes most of the PR juice disappear, that's it.

If you don't want the ugly affiliate URLs you could set up redirects from your domain instead. I'd say no to cloaking. No point in doing anything that could be considered suspicious. NoFollow is fine though.

Then goodluck getting penalized is much more painful than getting traffic. But seriously, don't cloak your links.

People are mistaking the original term cloaking (showing a different page to the search engine than to a user) vs link redirects. I use "cloaked" (read: redirected) links because they look nicer and I can track their stats in detail. I also nofollow them. So your answer is, do both.

Yes redirecting a link to another website is called is called cloaking. It is not according to google quality guidelines. Google can take action against those who use this types of seo method for their website.

How do you setup these redirects? Is there a wordpress plugin that will do this? I just don't want to get slapped by google.

No-follow attribute is legal on google's eye but chocking is illegal. So think you should avoid link chocking.
