Small doubt on backlinks PR...

My websites PR is 4. If the backlinks PR is less than 4 , will it affect my websites PR????

      Never, It will be called poor or low quality back link. Your website will not get and PR juice from that link. So make back links on the websites which has high tune of PR already.

    I can tell you honestly, from experience, that I hammered a site once (PR6) with crummy PR2-3 sitewide backlinks and it hurt my page rank. (My positioning increased, my PR went down)

    Be careful doing this. I wouldn't do it again.

    The formula for PR is public... Your PR went down either due to loss of other high PR links (sometimes very difficult to notice - a single lost backlink could be the cause) or a change in internal link structure.

    On a side note - if your positioning went up, wasn't that your goal? PR is just one metric, I normally focus on traffic/conversions (which PR has little to do with in most cases).

      Yes it was. This was some time ago, and put simply I was "testing" something on a clients website. Even though the ranking went up, I became a bit concerned when I saw the PR drop.

      I agree though, far too much emphasis on PR by most people.

      This won't affect your rankings as long as you get backlinks from relevant sites with quality content. Avoid getting links from sites that have been banned by Google or use black hat techniques. Focus on quality, not quantity.
