NEW SITE hit by NEGATIVE SEO

Hi,
I had to build new site due to negative SEO (my old site was hit by hundreds of bad links).
I registered new domain 2 months ago. I was working on it last one month.
The site was not published yet till this morning.
Today I checked backlinks to my site and I found out, that there are about
40 backlinks of type "new adult p0rn movie" etc. . There are no other links (I was not doing linkbuilding yet).
I am sure it is negative SEO of one of our competitor.
The question I have is:
The backlink are created in this way: domain.com/new-extra-bla bla bla
Backlinks are leading to NON EXISTING pages of my site.
Will this harm the site's Google ranking???
What would you do on my place?
Thank you for your advices.

Maybe you picked up a domain with existing backlinks? Happens.

It is not possible. The links were created AFTER my registration.

Was the site already ranking? Links to non-existing pages do sound like a "negative" SEO attempt yes...

Someone pointed links to a new domain without a site on it? How did they know you bought the domain? Is it a high traffic keyword EMD or a brand name of some kind?

You're unlikely to suffer much from this tbh - unless they build links to thousands of non-existing pages (among other tactics).

The domain has attractive keyword inside, the domain is very attractive in my business.
I think that competitor wanted to register this domain but he was late. It is easy to find who is owner of the site.....
The site was "under construction", so I suppose his aim was to make our start complicated.
It is second time this year.
All links come from forum and the post is always almost the same:
3 erotic images, hundreds of sexual keywords and at the end 10 rows of links with some horrible anchor text....
I have exactly 88 such backlinks...

Yes it is negative SEO, and until Google won`t make a change, new sites will have 0 chance to dominate search engines, when one of your competitors are using black hat techniques.

If the links point to non-existent pages (404 errors) then the links don't count according to John Mueller of Google :- seroundtable.com/404-links-google-15427.html

What is your present rank and how did your competitor find you? I think your competitor is not doing this. I think someone is doing this for any personal reason.

I am from a small country in Central Europe. My business is very specific and there are about 10-15 competitors in my country in this field. My competitor can very EASILY find my sites...
First domain finished in sand box due to hundreds strange backlings and starts recovering now.
This new domain did not finish in sandbox (yet) but I am afraid that this can happen again. Every day there are about 6-8 new "p0rn" links

S*it happens? A couple bad links wont stop your site, if you go with quality thereon after, you can also disregard links, and if you know which page they direct to you can always create that page yourself, and redirect it to some other domain bypassing your site totally.

to your homepage it would be different, in which case just make the nasty links so diluted with quality ones that it wont make any imapct at all.

Another thing to say, one clients site, had some odd GWT keywords showing up, its a political site talking about global political issues... and how on earth did it rank for "wierd alien s*x" ??? google isnt a GOD! they make mistakes and new sites take some time to really settle in correctly. I can tell you that after about 2 months only relevant terms are ranking for that site

I agree with Danny, doesn't sound like negative SEO to me even though that is quite strange and suspicious.

Any *serious negative SEO campaign would've shot thousands of those links at your site and not just 40-88. Start and keep consistent in building relevant quality links and you can bounce back from that quite easily.

If it was a negative SEO attack you would have hundreds if not thousands of links not only the tiny amount you speak of.

It depends on the "style" of SEO.
Negative SEO is not just making thousands of Scrapebox....
So what is your explanation for what is happening to my site?

  • Daily you got 6-8 back links. It is really bad. It looks like an negative SEO.
