So I have found a set of keywords that convert nicely.

This is one of the few wins I feel I have had with adwords and PPC in that this set of keywords does convert. In fact this is a win in general because I get organic hits off it too. The problem is the scope is pretty small.

For example, between June and the first 15 days of July, I generated 55 unique visitors to my website through both organic and paid means for this set of keywords. This has resulted in 11 sales for a conversion rate of 20%. That is what we call a winner right??

My cost for this in terms of ppc is $32 and my revenue is about $220, so we are talking an ROI in the 500% range.

Now, this isn't something I can scale into 100 sales a day, but I absolutely know the market is big enough to at least scale to one to five orders per day.

What kind of strategies should I take to scale this? I have yet to find a comparable display networks strategy that garners good results.

Damn just tried another display network campaign but I just cannot get people from a display campaign to buy anything. 15 different ad groups of around 25 keywords a piece. It actually took off pretty good overnight and I had nearly 70 clicks this morning, but absolutely no sales.

Just have to find a way to scale this winner!

And on a quick side note, my 500% ROI figure from my OP is a tad off since some of the sales are from organic traffic, but it is still a really nice ROI figure.

      Hi junkbox,

Congratulations on finding some fertile grounds, so to speak, in targeted keywords. You definitely want to scale that up. I will try to offer some advice on how to proceed with that goal.

First thing I would do is more keyword research based on keywords that are converting well. Enter those keywords, one at a time, into the AdWords Keyword tool and check the box labeled: "Only show ideas closely related to my search terms?"

Scan the returned list from above and remove any keywords that you know are inappropriate. Add all relevant keywords to your campaign, creating a separate ad group for each individual keyword, and a separate ad group for exact match and phrase match. Add any needed negative match keywords to the phrase match ad groups.

Another approach is to make a list of any common prefixes and suffixes that you find along with your root keywords. Use a permutation generator tool to build a list of every possible permutation of those prefix, suffix and root keyword combinations. Build tightly focused ad groups for each of those keywords. You will find numerous keyword permutation generators by searching Google, some free online web apps as well as commercial grade desktop applications.

Analyse your results, try to ascertain why certain keywords convert better than others. Once you understand why they convert better, you may be able to gain insight into a transferable principle that can be applied to other ad groups. Keep expanding and testing everything that might be closely related and share the same transferable principles.

Finally, be sure to test your winning keywords at multiple Max CPC bid levels. You are likely to find that profits decline above a certain bid level as well as below that same level, that is your optimal bid level. Please bear in mind that the optimal bid levels tend to change over time, due to the actions of your competitors, so repeat your bid level testing on a regular and frequent schedule.
