    Looks like you may need to start from the beginning and learn a bit more before jumping back in. Page rank and your rankings in the search engines are two totally different things. However, PR can help influence your rankings.

    Anyway, as far as ranking well, it basically comes down to:

    1 - Proper market / keyword research. (Picking something too difficult is going to make the other steps pretty useless.)

    2 - Proper on-page SEO & quality content.

    3 - Quality backlinks. Don't blindly spam tons of backlinks to your main site unless you're not worried about the long term results.

      First of all, you should try to find out what exactly caused this drop in Page Rank. Secondly, you need to keep adding quality content that attracts links organically. Don't give up link building, but try to find a new approach.

    If you haven't done so already, make sure that pages like contact us, privacy policy, etc. are no follow. I would then make an effort to find blogs in your niche with a PR of 3 or higher and add a comment that is not spam and related to the website and the niche. Make sure that the blogs are do follow, and of course make sure that you leave a link to your site either within the comment or the username. I would recommend rotating the anchor between the keyword(s) you are trying to target and your URL.
