Hi warriors,
I am really confused why is this happening to me. I found a keyword with 9000 monthly it was "im feeling lucky tricks" I did work on it and my blog(ecolumns.net) was on 2nd on Google for this keyword (Its droped now). The keyword has 9000 monthly searched and I wasn't having any of it.
I am really confused am I missing something?
Thanks in advance

How were you checking that you were ranking at #2?

If you were searching via your browser, you may have been seeing the Google personalised results.

When Scroogle was around (was closed earlier this year), it was a useful way of getting unbiased search results.

The best alternative is to use http://startpage.com

I wrote up a blog entry explaining in detail why it is important to do unbiased Google searches.

I wass checking it through a keyword monitor tool and I confirmed it with searching in incognito mode for chrome which hides all personalized results

You say that the keyword had 9,000 monthly searches. Was that broad or [exact]? Global or Local? More information is needed. If you didn't get the [exact] match keyword results I would encourage you to run it through the keyword tool again and see what it comes back with.

How long were you ranking in that spot? Was it just a day? How many visits did you actually receive when you were ranking number 2?

When I did a search for that keyword, I found this site on page one, number 4 result.

Google "I'm feeling lucky" Tricks Part 1 ~ eColumns | Columns on Android, Google, Facebook and the Web.

If that is your site you dropped two down two result slots. That said your keyword gets an estimated 300 visits a day. If your sitting at number four your looking at less than 40% of clicks but more than 25% if I remember correctly. Of course those are rough estimates.

What is your daily traffic now, from that keyword?

I really appreciate your help. Thanks a lot. Yes you are correct thats my site. I was ranked 2nd for two days and then I drop I was just having about 25 to 30 visits using that keyword and now I am having about 5 to 6 visitors. Can't figure out the reason.

Would seem then that in this case the top displayed result is getting most of the traffic, while the other nine are picking up the scraps.

With 9000 [exact] monthly searches each day this keyword would get roughly 300 searches. If your only getting 5 to 6 visitors from the keyword than that top site is absolutely dominating.

I think you would be best to improve your title, thus improving your CTR. If you look at the top result for example "Top 12 Google "Im felling lucky" tricks", it draws your attention alot more than your title. Try changing it to something like "im feeling lucky tricks that you never knew about" or "Top secret im feeling lucky tricks"

Okay I got your point but is it okay to change the title after an article is published and indexed ?

        Yes it is okay.

However, make sure you still keep your keywords in there and there is not garantee that it won't affect your rankings by changing the words a little. Nobody really knows (or a least nobody on the forum I have come across yet anyway) the exact way a simple change to your title like this will have on your rankings, but as long as you keep it about the same length and have your keywords in it, it should be drastic and it might actually be a postive move up in rankings.

However for now, you need to focus on your call to action, not your rankings and then use google webmaster tools to check your CTR.

That said, as someone else mentioned, the reason you are not getting very many visitors is because the top sites are probably dominating. But even if you don't improve your ranking, but you get more people to click on your listing because it has a better call to action, then will be getting more visitors and then when your rankings do improve your will be dominating even better than the top ranking sites now.

just as one of the posts above said, it is fine as long as your keyword is in there. Be sure to ping your post once you have changed it plus maybe bookmark it so google recrawls it sooner
