three of my sites rankings dropped in the last few days. most of the keywords were in first page but now i dont seem to find any of them in the first 5 pages. all i did was change the title tags of these sites. not only these but i changed title tags of few other sites but only these sites lost their ranking. doesnt look like there was a google update recently so i'm not sure if its just google dance or i've been penalised by google.

anyone else experienced ranking fluctuation lately?

      thanx for your reply.
yeah i meant the title thats displayed in the serp. so okay i got the idea about why this happened but after google evaluates the sites will they bounce back to their previous ranking?

Yes, mikeshiobi is correct. if you are changing some major aspects, the site undergoes for reconsideration, but it is not like that your site has been penalized. If you have changed the title tag, which is most important aspects, then Google will have to re-check that the title you have used is actually describing your page or not. If it would be all right, then you will be again near to the same position on SERP. From your side, you can review your content on the page according to the keywords used in the title tag.

Are you sites new? If so, it used to occur when some changes in on-page as far as your ranks on Google are not stable yet.

I too had faced similar changes when I changed my title, but it was not massive drop, I got down to page 3,4 from 1. But, it was not a massive change or change in any keyword. Anyhow, I did not stop link building, I let it to go ahead with steadily, with hope to get ranks back. The reason is, I had undergone same situation with one of my client, getting more quality links worked for that case. So, it should for me even Let's see...

yes, changing title tags can also change your rankings in search results. if u want to add new keywords then the best way to do that is to create new posts and target that new keywords in them. In this way your website will get more presence with new keywords and also your rankings on old keywords will also remain same

Yup, there are high chances that it was due to the title tag. But then again, you never know, could be many other reasons as well.

I changed some title tags recently along with the description, a couple of days later rankings dropped, a day after that they were back again.

Kept the same keyword phrases (minus one), basically rearranged the order to make them flow better when reading. It's nothing to worry about unless you completely change the keywords from existing ones.

Chances that you've just got beaten by your competitors in your keyword rankings is big since there are no changes happened in your other websites when you changed your title tag.
