URL Question - Dashes alright?

Newbie question..

Say my keyword is how to clear acne, and How-to-clear-acne.com/net/org isnt available but How-to-clear-acne.com is, should i get it?

Would that mess up the search at all? Or would it be harder to rank that as opposed to no dashes?

    I think the reliance on domain alone is Decreasing so using hyphens shouldn't be as big of a deal as it used to be. Build quality sites with great content and make that your priority is following what Google wants and you should be good.

    If I was google, I'd put in my algo that if you got three or more dashes in your domain name you get a negative spam flag. It won't prevent them from ranking, but its just one more hurtle they'd have to jump across that they otherwise wouldn't have to.

    Maybe there is such a thing, maybe not. Nobody knows for sure. With all those PhD's at Google, I'd think they would capitalize on this as one of the many signals to determine whether a site is crap or not.

    And let's be honest ....99% of the sites with three or more dashes are crap that no self-respecting search engine wants in their index.

    And another And ....If you're using dashes to get some sort benefit out of "exact match", you must be reading an outdated seo guide or ebook from 2003. OR if it's a new ebook, it's rehashed garbage based on 2003 material.

    Nowadays exact match domain or hyphen doesn't make a huge difference in seo. You should rather focus on the on-page seo and most importantly the content of the site. If you have good informative content, valueable for end users then your site is bound to rank well in search engines. Domain names with hypens or without hypens contribute a small fraction of your site's seo but content and off-page seo holds a huge part, so focus on the huge part and you will be credited for that.

    Forget about the dashes, forget about having the keyword in the domain. Just make a brand name.
