Backlinks not increasing pagerank?...

Hi.

New on here and new to SEO and backlinks, etc... But learning fast!

I've been using Market samurai and have obtained 7 backlinks to my site from other sites link pages that each have pageranking of between 3 and 7. I have ensured that the links to my site are to the actual homepage URL and not just the domain. These have been in place for several weeks now and still my website only has a pagerank of 0.

I've read that backlinks are a major factor in increasing pagerank, but don't know where I'm going wrong. Any ideas?!

All help/advice will be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance!

I am not very sure whether you can increase the PR of your website just with 7 back links. You would surely see some improvements in your webpage ranking ( which is different from the Google assigned PR), but you need a lot more SEO fuel to improve the PR. I believe some experienced SEO experts in the forum will add some tips here.

Thanks for the response. I thought by spending the time researching and obtaining the higher ranked backlinks, they were of substantially more value, meaning I would need less of them to increase pagerank. One SEO site I had read some info on said having 1 page 7 backlink to my site should get my site a page rank of at least 3.

Like I said, I am new to this but gradually learning it. All help and clarification on this issue is very much appreciated, as I'm somewhat confused at the moment!

You are going to have to play the waiting game just like the rest of us. Build your backlinks every day steadily. Google looks at the number of domains that is linking to you the consistency of those links and the number of links.

Keep building, in time you will rank up. I ranked my blog up to a PR 3 in 3 months.

Surprised no one is replying on here. But more goes into page rank other than backlinks. Social. Content. Keep on putting good stuff on your website, keep it updated and backlink QUALITY websites that have the same subjects as your website. Don't backlink too much by the way.

I just started my website the beginning of this week and it has jumped from Alexia rank of 16mil to 8mil in a couple of hours. I don't have much; just a couple of backlink, including here on WF and some other blog places.

Your FOCUS: stay active with your website and devlop it at a good pace, aesthetically, and content wise.

    Good luck.

You are completely wrong on this. Pagerank is a measure of the quality of incoming links to a page. Content has nothing to do with PR. Social signals have nothing to do with PR. It is all about backlinks.

To the OP, even if you got a PR 10 link today, your site is going to show as a PR 0. Google only updates the toolbar PR a few times a year. Last time was the end of April. And even that lags behind the real PR by a few months. You never can see your real PR.

This. And if your URL is new you may be sandboxed by Google for up to 6 months. Getting decent PR isn't done overnight.

You need to wait for next toolbar update. If your site gets some PR 3-7 dofollow backlinks from low OBL pages then surely it got a good PR already. You cant see improvement in toolbars coz the toolbars are updated few months ago and not showing current/updated PR.

Whoever saying you to build backlinks consistently and updating website using fresh contents are completely wrong. PR has nothing to do with link velocity and Fresh content updates. As Mike said its all about backlinks.

Thanks for all the good advice. I'll try and take it all on board and do all of it. Even if the content doesn't impact on the pagerank, as I understand it, search engines respond well to fresh content don't they?! So still prob good advice that I should use.

It's a bit frustrating having to wait for the pagerank to increase but it's the same for everyone else too, so I'll just have to learn to be patient.

Thanks for all your help guys, it's very appreciated. You've been massively helpful. First time I've been on here, and I've learnt alot. I'll be sure to pass on the knowledge I learn from SEO activities and others on here to other newbies like me as time goes by.

That is a huge IM myth. You do not need to constantly update your content to rank well in the search engines.

I've had pages with a LOT of traffic that somehow never gained any PR, and others that got almost no traffic that had PR 1 or 2...

Make sure you're building quality, and you'll get Google's trust eventually.

I wish I had a magic crystal ball that would give you an answer, but the reality it that no one knows exactly if/when Google will grant that page PR...

It's possible your internal pages will rank before your main one, which makes perfect sense to me. Unless you have a newspaper website, the relevant content will be INSIDE the site, and not on the index.html page of your site.

But for increase the page rank of your site you site must get the back links from High page rank and dofollow sites. The below are the main points for getting the best page rank for site
      - Your site content must be high quality and unique.
      - Your site content must include the anchor tags and Images.
      - The structure of url of your site must be high quality and meaningful.

      - You must get high quality Back links with best off page activity.

None of those three things have a damn thing to do with the PR of the page.

That stuff might have to do with search engine rankings, but those things have NOTHING to do with pagerank.

The first question I ask when someone says they want to increase their PR is, why?

Quite often, most people don't really have a good reason why they think they should increase their PR as I detail on my blog.

Increase in PR = more backlinks to your site. It has nothing to do with content or onpage seo.

However, Google only shows the update in PR publicly to your site once every few months.

    Improve Your Google Ranking

    Hello Pioneer01,

Backlinks are only a part of what determines your website’s ranking status, including with Google. There are many factors that affect your pagerank with search engines. Here are some of the more important things to take care of first.

Making it to the top of a giant like Google, in a competitive market is no easy task.

Most search engine traffic goes to the top 10 listings on Google’s search results. Everyone wants to be in this category. However, Google only gives that essential distinction to ten entries for every search.

    Workings of the Search Engines

A search engine gathers data published on the web.The job of a search engine is to gather data that is available on the Internet. When a search engine such as Google wants to gather this data, it sends out little programs called 'bots'. These bots crawl the web putting each document into their massive index.

    1. Website Content

Keep your website content focused on your specific product or service. This may include text, pictures, videos, tools, applications, and products that pertain to your business.

    2. Quality Keywords

Whatever you use, your goal here is to discover how the public is searching for the kinds of goods and services you offer.

Make sure your keywords are focused, learn how the public is searching for the goods or services you offer. Keywords are what search engines like Google and others use to determine the search results. Accuracy is imperative.

    3. Backlinks Give Direction

Google's bots crawl the web from link to link, and that link is pointing to a page on your website. Links are the trail that lead Google's bots to your website.

    4. Add Social Media

Social Media like Facebook, and Twitter brings much website recognition and will raise rankings for you. Also there are social voting sites such as Digg, Reddit, and Stumbleupon that will also give a boost to your site.

    5. Create a Niche

Working with a niche will give your website increased visibility to search engines. In a niche-based market, competition is considerably reduced, which is a major business advantage.

Yes pagerank is connected with backlinks.

If your pr is not updated within 12-17 weeks, check whether the links obtained are do-follow or not!
