    competition medium is for adwords ads.
    if you want to rank in the serp,you need to check competition there. But,just buy nichefinder from Brad, I saw it's 4 $ now.
    It will do your life much easier.

    First off you need to clarify some things.

    Did you filter for [exact] match searches or are you looking at the results for a broad match within the Google Keyword Tool.

    Also, the "competition" meter within the Keyword Tool only takes into consideration the competition for running an Adwords campaign. To determine your true competition you need to look at the following factors for EVERY site on page one:

    * Domain Age
    * Page Backlinks (for the page ranking)
    * Site Backlinks
    * Keyword Optimization for Title, H1 and Description tags.

    Well, you should have listened to his advice.

    Your question belongs in Adsense / PPC / SEO Discussion Forum

    I was using the goggle keyword tool and for my kw the numbers where (competition medium)global searches 4400 local searches 3600 and the next one read (competition medium/global 1900/local 1600 from what ive learned thru this forum these numbers are not that bad especaly for a newbie what do you fellow warriors think??? and last one read medium/4400/2900 all 3 long tailed keywords
    Remember that while Google Adwords Keyword Tool is good for finding potential keywords, it tells you very little about how hard it is to rank for those keywords.

    Were you looking at exact, phrase or broad match figures?

    First, you research the keyword or key phrase you want to use and make sure that it is unique. Then after that choose the keyword that has medium and low competition.

    It depends on the niche and whether you are talking about EXACT match or not. Personally, I don't waste my time looking at the numbers. It doesn't take much time or money to create a page around a long tail keyword and even if it doesn't make me any money today, it may years from now.

    Before my Adsense account was closed, I had quite a few sites and some made me absolutely nothing for 6 months to a year, and then all of the sudden they started producing an income.

    My point is, if you spend your time getting all caught up in the numbers you won't get any work done. Believe me, I was that guy for quite some time when I started. My advice, forget the number, create a list of keywords and just start putting out content.

    @ezelljr, are you planning to do SEO (optimize your website for organic search results) or are you planning to do AdWords (pay-per-click) advertising?

    Thing is, Google AdWords Keyword Tool is for for AdWords advertisers. So, the competition it shows is among other pay-per-click players.

    However, SEOs use this keyword tool, too, in order to see the number of searches a particular keyword gets. Now, if you want to see organic competition, you have to type in the keyword on Google and see how many results are returned. Say, Google is finds 2 654 100 results - that would be your competition.

    Another thing you might want to consider is KEI (keyword efficiency index). This is an SEO metric that reflects a number of searches to competition ratio. The more searches a keyword gets and the fewer results are found for it on Google, the more profitable it is.
