About 65,000,000 results for about 33,100 monthly searches. Im new to SEO so are 33k monthly searches worth trying to get 1st page with 65 million results?

Forget the 65M results as that has little relevance to how hard it is to rank for that keyword.

Firstly, the most important thing is to ensure you are looking at the exact match search figures and not broad match.

If the 33,100 is exact match searches, then that's a pretty highly searched keyword and most likely has reasonable competition.

Nope, the terms with 33k is "make money online fast". An exact match would be "how to make money online taking surveys" which has 2.4k searchs but 2 million results. Should I just go for that instead?

I see a keyword just as good with 30k searchesand only 5 million results so I guess thats better.

    I lol'd..

BEFORE YOU BUY A DOMAIN READ THIS :

the kind man above suggested you double check that you search for an Exact match keyword. That is actually in the google keyword tool, you have from your left 3 options:
    broad, exact and match.
be sure you tick the "exact" only.

There are a few more criterias you should check, but first check what i told you and come back with the info, then will move ahead.

sorry or typos its darfk o backlight for kb and no spellchecker.

I think amount of searches doesn't matter it only increases as Google changes it's algorithm.

Forget about number of competition and search volume.

Do a backlink analysis of the top 5 results to get a better understanding of the niche and how others are currently seeing success in the SERPS.

Once your armed with that informaton you will be able to flesh out a campaign based on data and research instead of just 'pissing in the wind' as most people seem to do.

Matthew is right: the most important thing when judging a keyword is the strength of your competition.

Use a program like Market Samurai (you can get a 40 days free trial using the Ed Dale option when signing up) or even a free addon like the SeoQuake toolbar to check your competition.

If you want to take it even further, you can use SEO SpyGlass to do a more detailed check on your competition's backlinks.
