Pagerank transferring via 301 Redirects

I have 3 old sites that I'm 301 redirecting to a brand new site to transfer the PR juice.

Pagerank of sites:
Site 1 - PR 2
Site 2 - PR 2
Site 3 - PR 1

New site has PR 0 currently.

What do you estimate the transfered Pagerank to be on the new site?

Also, how long does it take to transfer Pagerank?

Can the new site get penalized for this?

Thanks guys!

What if I added another site, an old PR2. Would the new site go higher than PR 1?

Can you get penalized for doing this? One of my friends is saying:

    301 redirect directly = penalty!

your new PR is going to be PR2 for sure.
the new pagerank will be shown after the new PR update.
if these 3 websites of yours whom you are redirecting to are facing any penelty from google the penelty will also be passed to your new website.

    hope that helps.

There's no penalty on the 3 old sites, is it ok to 301 them to the new site directly?

I was told that manipulating page rank in this way could put a penalty on my new site. Not true?

it is ok to 301 redirect your old sites new one if there is no penalty on the old one, you can rest assured that there will be no penalty on your new site however i will still tell you to create a few more backlink to the new website so that the linking will look natural..

people have been doing that for a long time so it's ok.

Id suggest that you go and get other links too (also send links to the 301s from time to time)

Just consider it as another link that points to your site. If the indexed content (Pre 301) is related to your site, the better.

As for the penalty, it does transfer....but not always.

Site went from PR0 to PR3 in about 3 days. Is this going to boost the rankings for my keywords on that site now?

According to me you will get pr2 but you need to wait until the next PR update.
