Niche websites myth or fact?

I am very new to internet marketing but I am eagerly willing to read and learn. Now for the past three months or so I've been reading about what's called "niche website marketing" and how this is the 2012 trend (may be 2011 or even older i don't know). I read and read and all what i find is promises of good cash online using Adsense, affiliate marketing...etc. This is fine but I've got some questions that I really wish to get some answers from the experts in the marketing field:
1. Why are all niche websites I've seen so far offering content that is - in a way or another - discussing how to make niche websites and how to do good SEO, how to choose a keyword...etc. ? This way I see no added value for the end reader/user. He/she will read the posts and try to apply them by building a niche website which will probably also be on niche website building and so on!
2. Most - if not all - of the above mentioned websites try to up-sell a product (whether affiliated to or their own) that aids in the process. From SEO analysis to competition measuring, to keyword finding and so on. So is this some sort of scam? You get the point? selling a product that all what it does is teach you how to sell the very same product (or a similar one) to a user who would do the same and so on in an endless loop with no added value!
Guys please guide me through this, I am very new and I don't want to engage in pyramid schemes or scams. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot in advance.

Niche websites are still hot, you just have to choose a less competitive niche, do some proper keyword research then build and optimize your site's pages/articles. Easy as 1,2,3 (well sort of)

Online marketing is not a scam. Some product vendors are scammy but one has nothing to do with the other.

I was like you. Wondering if its a scam but I've been lucky enough to make good money. Treat it as a real business and you should be fine.

I didn't say "online marketing" as a whole is scam. I was just mentioning people who build their niche sites on "how to build a niche site" theme and sell products that does the same thing and people start their career in marketing up selling the same idea: niche site building and so on endlessly.

Its up to you what you think about niche websites. If you are posting something that doesn't come in your niche then how can you make traffic/money.But if you does the same thing in your particular niche you will get the results. And most imprtant is handle your keyword with a lot of care. Keywords should relate to the niche you are posting in.

for "how to choose a keyword"
    tips:
    1. Be creative, but be choosy.
    2. Try not to target keyword phrases that are too competitive.
    3. If there are unusual words associated with your content that you think people might search for, or misspellings, include them sparingly.

My checks tell me it's a fact...
The myth is niche website turnkey systems where you do not have to do anything. It takes work just like anything else of value.

I build them myself, it isn't a scam but at the same time a lot of the tools recommended are not necessary at least not at first.

Rather than purchase a keyword tool, just use the Google adwords keyword tool. The paid tools only take data from this anyway, though some genuinely can speed up the process.

The only things you must pay for at first is the cost of domains, hosting and content (unless you write your own).

Niche website is a best where you must have to do focus on relevant niche of your website while you have to do keyword research and also keep in mind that always choose less competition niche first because it will be easy to get on high ranking then high competition niche.
