Adknowledge PPC - Is This How it Works?

Hi All. 1st post.

I recently used Adknowledge to do a small test on a little 3-line ad. I got all of the clicks that I expected (but no sales). When I investigated the source of the visits, I found that about 2/3 came from a site called "dsnextgen.com". When I click on it, I'm redirected to "dsparking.com" but the site is actually named "Information.com" and looks like a Search Page.

I did a search on "dsnextgen" and it looks like one of those pages you get when you try to go to an inactive URL - a 404 page (although it doesn't say "404", so I could be wrong). If the visitor then tries to use this "Search Page" like, well, a Search Page, and types in a search term, they are given 2 or 3 "results" which are actually ads. I assume that this type of ad is what I'm paying for when using a service like Adknowledge or others. The majority of the remaining traffic I received were from similar "Search" pages.

I actually got page visits out of it, so I guess it's not a scam. Although I can't see why anyone would use one of these fake Search Pages to actually Search.

Is my understanding of this type of advertising correct? Is this how all of these PPC companies work?

Thanks for your input and comments.

    I've tried Adknowledge.

And while the cost-per-click was dirt cheap and I got loads of clicks I was bothered by two things...

The niche I was targeting was rather small and narrow and I wasn't expecting a lot of clicks from these folks, but I was sent several hundred in a short period of time. That caused me to go "hmm"– it just didn't feel right to me.

No surprisingly I didn't get any sales from the investment.

Bottom line I have my doubts on how qualified the traffic was that was clicking on my ads.

Hi Michael. Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, all of my approx 300 clicks came within a couple of hours, but my niche is Forex - Currency Trading, which is fairly hot right now (I think). It looks like it IS actually people clicking on the ad. And the only way to see the ad is to type a "Search" on a related keyword, so I'm not sure how this can be Gamed by the PPC seller. Maybe people getting paid to do related searches and click ads? OR maybe the traffic is legit and my page/offer just isn't very good.

But then, I'm new to this whole business, so I'm just guessing and trying to learn by experience.

Try Google adwords, or 7search if your trying to save money at least you will see results.

No, this is definitely not how real ppc works.

Look for quality, not quantity. You definitely get what you pay for.

OK, so my understanding is that Top Level PPC would be providers like Google AdWords and Microsoft AdCenter, where you are paying to have your 3-line ad appear on relevant search result pages as "Ads" in Google, Bing and Yahoo.

Also, you can have your ads placed in other peoples' websites where you pay Google per click and Google pays the site owners (Adsense), thereby giving them another source of income from their sites.

      Am I correct so far?

Where, then, should companies like Adknowledge, 7search, Adbrite, Bidvertiser, Clicksor, etc, be placing your ads? I'm just trying to get a handle on how the whole PPC business works.

      Thanks again for the input.
