SEO Recommendation for Retail Site

Warriors,

One of my offline businesses that I run is a retail store. Mostly baby gifts and items) We have a eccomerce site to companion the offline business. My problem is getting the traffic I need to convert. I'm currently getting about 2500 unique visits per month. My rankings are some page 1's but mostly 2's. I'm paying a company to manage my SEO but in the last 4 months I have seen no improvements and very little online sales. What is your recommendation? It must be strictly white hat and fully legit as this is much more than a online retail store for spare cash.

How was your traffic before you hired them?

If I hired an SEO company (not a backlinking service), I would expect them to get me traffic from many other long tail keywords that I wasn't even looking at, not just the ones I asked them to work on...
especially if they aren't able to improve the rankings for the main keywords after 4 months.

Unless those 2500 uniques/month is a large improvement coming from other keywords that they worked on, I would let them go.

    Encouraged more social media.
e.g more likes or google plus votes
Put some videos up on youtube if you haven't done that.

Offer something free to build a list e.g something on the baby subject. or start a e-newsletter.

The site was launched in 3/2012. From go I have had them working on it. Unfortunately, they are pricey $300+ per month. I certainly have not received the sales to justify the expense. (although the offline side carries it)

I did the basic stuff myself. Redirects, on page seo, meta tags and etc. The seo company is working on the backlink campaign and 20 keywords.

An opt in form is certainly a option but still does not resolve the lack of traffic. I have only like 100 back links at this point. Do you think this is where my problem lies?
here is my site Unique,Creative Baby Gifts, Diaper Cakes, Shower Gifts,Favors

      1) Who picked the keywords that your going after?

      2) Is the hired SEO only working on external links?

      3) What's going on with your URLs, looks very confusing?

      hxxp://alamode-gifts.com/BabyGiftsSignatureCollection/DiaperCakes/RedOrangeYellow,DiaperCake,BabyShowerCenterPiece,C ustomDiaperCakes,UniqueDiaperCakes,BabyShowerGift
      4) IMO you need to get the site better focused on what your trying to accomplish with SEO, as an example here is a random page title:

      Page title = Kyan
      URL = hxxp://alamode-gifts.com/PersonalizedDiaperCake,DiaperCake,BabyShowerCenter Piece,CustomDiaperCakes,UniqueDiaperCakes,BabyShow erGift
The phrase "Kyan" isn't very descriptive for traffic or SEO, what is "Kyan"? Does your customer search for "Kyan" on Google, or does your customer search for the keyword "diaper cake"?

You seriously need to get a handle on the sites SEO, before worrying about external links.

Yes I believe they are working on links only.
They chose the keywords (with my help)
The urls are a seo function in our dashboard that are supposed to improve seo. as opposed to urls such as /index.php;laksuv13234r;slkn

OK. So your saying my on page / on site SEO is the issue. And link building is of little concern at this point? Who would you recommend for on page SEO help?

Actually in the last 4 months the SEO companies ran from a very bad time. So i think you should give the SEO company some more time.
Have you checked the number of visitors? if you think that the number of visitors are increased then you can get an idea that how much they are working.
about sells: Its not necessary that if you do good SEO you will get sells. Sells depends on the page where you are directing your visitors.

As others have pointed out, your onsite optimization is atrocious.

But, the first real big problem here ISN'T SEO, instead it's your conversion rate and that should be your primary focus at the time being.

As you mentioned you are getting traffic, but hardly any sales. So what's the point of SEO'ng your site further and WASTING that traffic/leads?

Get yourself a conversion optimization specialist and fix some of the critical problems you are making. That way you are converting your traffic, then focus on getting more visitors. Doing it the other way around isn't a good idea at this point.

      Rev SEO,

I understand your point here. I also agree. If I were to add up all the visits to sales it would less than .05% conversion. Terrible. I assumed it was lack of quality traffic. My seo company installed some sort of program into my directory. They wouldn't tell me what it was or how it worked...simply they were building backlinks. I have since checked some of my links and they are way out in left field. I (my wife) specializes in creating baby gifts. Why the heck would I have backlinks from electronic cigarettes? My company is Blazonco. Supposed to be very reputable and a 95% retention rate.....don't know. Perhaps it's not them at all. I'll investigate the on page seo optimization. Or can you help?
