If you know what your doing, and can find individulas on websites such as elance.
    You can get:
    - 10 keywords rich articles
    - All 10 articles submitted to 100 top directories
    - 250 social bookmarks
    - 20 forum posts from related high PR forums

    For a very reasonable cost (About $200 - $300).
By doing all of the above you will soon find yourself climbing the SEO ladder.

Just do this monthly until you reach the top.

      Hi livingwell,

There are many self proclaimed SEO experts that will eagerly take your money in exchange for a promise to get you a first page listing in the search engines for a competitive keyword.

If the so called SEO expert is promising you a first page listing of a highly competitive term for a couple hundred dollars you should consider the offer dubious.

They usually prey on peoples desires and trick them with examples of first page rankings that they earned on terms that have little or no competition. Other variations include examples of sites that earned their rankings prior to securing them as a client or claims on sites that they had little or no influence on.

Another spin is they will try to convince you to target terms that have little or no value and therefore little competition. Highly competitive terms can often incur tens of thousands of dollars of promotional effort on a sustained basis to reach the top.

Before you shell out good money to a great sounding sales pitch, ask for references from third party business owners and contact those owners to ask them what return on investment they have received as direct result of the SEO's efforts.

Ask about the specific techniques they will apply and how you will be able to monitor and measure the ROI of your investment. Feel free to post the information you gather here for further scrutiny by the considerable knowledge of the members of this forum. We may be able to save you from making a bad choice.

That just would not make since....

I agree that the price for quality SEO Work would depend on many factors and the price can very greatly.

I would also advice you to look for a SEO Service provider that offers a money back guarantee.

I always offer a money back guarantee with my SEO service because I feel that it is important to stand behind my products and services. If you do not believe in yourself, it will be hard to get others to believe in you.
That's what I'm going to start doing...up front and money back guarantee. Normally, I have been paid after the work is done and proofed by the search.

I got stuck because I took it on faith that I would be getting paid as soon as I proved myself.

Got a business top ratings and first pages for 34 of thier terms. Even beat out some of the large franchised competitors.

And...onpage SEO only...PR2 with no linking.

dburk, that is one of the most sensible posts I've read in a long time and should be applied to ALL search engineers (and yes I include myself in that) and the points you raise was a contributing factor in my decision all those years ago to go freelance, many in the industry were making promises they simply could not keep.

While I'm not suggesting that anyone on this forum would attempt such a thing, there are thousands of cowboys out there and it's very difficult to tell actual SEO's from the fly by nights.

Your comment about seeking third party testimonials is one that everyone who is seeking SEO should take on board. In fact most of my work is gained through word of mouth recommendations, on average for every single client you make happy you gain around six news ones, at least in my experience.

Very good points. I believe that SEO pricing all depends on the website, compeitors, keywords, and anything else that will effect rankings.

Even though I know you revealed the keyword phrase later on in this thread, I just wanted to point out that a good SEO firm/individual would ask you a series of questions about this first.

    Such as:
    - What keyword phrase are you looking to optimize?
    - How long have you had the website you're referring to?
    - Has anyone else attempted to do SEO on the site and if so, what were the results? (Previously bad SEO on a site can be incredibly detrimental to your overall results).
    - What is your domain name?

And this is just to start.

Then it would be up to the SEO to do some initial research on the site in order to give you a fair quote. Rarely is it a "one-size fits all" price for the actual work itself.

Not all websites/markets are created equal (as a matter of fact, few, if any of them are).

SEO Expert thank you for your private message, I would consider hiring you. I cannot reply to PMs yet.

How much will it cost me for number 1 for the keyword mentioned above, Alternative Health? How long will it take? What kind of reporting will you give me and how often?

    Thank you

for the term alternative health...about 3 months to be realistic. It took me about that long to dominate liquid vitamin for another person.

about 600.00 one time fee....75.00 maintance fee afterwards.

there could be other fees depending how you want to dominate the field.

I'm not getting a new email address I have one that (mostly) works fine already. I'm not technical either.

SEO expert i think this is a terrible way to treat potential customers, i think there is something very wrong with how you do business and i havent even hired you yet.

I hate to think how you will treat me once you have taken my money.

If you can't give me the quote I asked for I wont have any choice but to go with someone who behaves like a professional and treats his customers right.

I'll throw in my 2 cents here....

Your KW alternative health in Google without quotes is some 67 Million pages; with quotes 6.4 Million pages and intitle: 2.7 Million. Also, I noticed some .gov sites which have a lot of authority so it will be hard to outrank those.

If you know nothing about keywords then spend some time learning. Anyone can say they'll get you to the top....you need to ask about their tactics and how long you can expect that word to stay.

Also, why are you going for such a broad KW. Broad KWs are not where the money is. Are you making an adsense site or something?

      Good luck....

It doesn't really matter how many results there are for a KW. The ones that matter are the ones that are optimized for that particular KW.

And, it is common and a good practice to start a site on a broad keyword...then you silo it down from there. It is a matter of proper file structure. But...your right, broad KW are Not where the money is. That is why a silo file structure is so important.

Yes...edu sites have pages that are dedicated to the kw, alternative health. So what...it can still be out done without a lot of difficulty.

Thank you seo expert. How long will it take to get to number 1 and what will you do each month?

I asked the seo companies in my city and I have been quoted between $800 - $2000 a month. They said they are mailing me a list of everything they will do each month because I didnt understand a word of it when they told me on the phone.

if u outsourced to asian seo co they charge u even cheaper somewhere around $300 for the entire project. SEO is a technical thing so basically anyone can learn it and they are also talented & skillful. But if u need copywriting then u should search for native speaker for quality works.
