Beware Of Dangerous SEO Tricks

I recently bought an SEO guide which contained some dangerous SEO advice (at least that's what I think).

One of the "secret" on-page SEO tips was to use the main keyword and 1-2 related keywords at the very beginning and at the end of the page in a very small font and in the same color as the background (so that the human reader can't see those keywords).

I think, that's something that was done almost 10 years ago and back than it even worked for a short while. But, come on, the search engines aren't that stupid any longer and using those sorts of dirty tricks will surelmy cause you more harm than good.

Also, this guide contained almost 30 pages of on-page SEO tips with tons of strange and time consuming steps.

I think, on-page SEO is mostly about letting the SE's know what your site is talking about and I don't really like to spend more than 5-10 minutes for on-page tasks.

Here is what I usually do for on-page SEO optimization:

* Get a domain name that contains your most important keyword. The domain name can have 1-2 dashes, but I usually don't like more than 2. No need to use words like: the, a, for, of... in your domain name. Also, I recommend you stick to .com .org or .net domains.

* Use the keyword for which you would like to optimize a specific page in the page url - for example: http://main-keyword.com/page-keyword.html

* Add your keyword to your Title tag - or use a closely relates LSI keyword (for example, replace a word like "easy" with "simple" in your keyword phrase)

* Add your main keyword and if possible a secondary keyword to your Meta Description tag.

* If you are using WordPress, use a plugin like All In One SEO or Yoast.

* Use your keyword in your headline and use a different headline text (use an LSI keyword instead of your main kw) than your Title text. Also, try to use your keyword and some related keywords in some of your sub headlines throughout your article.

* Use your main keyword at the beginning of your article or blog post, at the end of it and maybe 2-3 times in your article (depending on the lengths of your article).

* Use a few related keywords (LSI keywords) in your article.

* I also like to link to a high quality authority site (for example to a wikipedia page that's related to the article) from my blog post. Many SEO guides recommend to make all outgoing links nofollow, I recommend to make those links to high quality pages dofollow - it looks more natural and contrary to what many people say, I don't think it is a waste of link juice. On the other hand, I recommend to make low quality outbound links (such as affiliate links) nofollow.

* If you use images on your webpage, add an alt tag with your keyword.

* If possible, add one or more internal links from your blog post to other blog posts on your site - make them dofollow.

* You can also use the free "SEO Smart Links" plugin to facilitate your internal linking.

* It won't hurt to make your main keyword bold and/or italicized - for example at the beginning of your article.

That's really simple and straightforward and it takes only about 5 minutes to implement all of those steps.

What are you doing for on-page SEO? Do you use any additional steps? Do you have any other on-page tips that really seem to improve rankings?

Let me know about your thoughts & experiences with on-page SEO optimization, I'd love to hear them

You should clearly ask for a refund. Anyone recommending that kind of stuff has no idea what they are talking about.

Beware of OP's posting with WSO's...

Put that in perspective, and what have you got?

In other words, why talk about buying some supposed
        seo guide, then offering:

[WSO] - Get #1 On Google And Stay There!

        What has the WF become?

If you were disappointed in your results today, lower your standards tomorrow.

Whahaha yeah that used to work. In fact the more effective way of doing it before that was to spam thousands of keywords, white text and white background to get number 1. Back then it was all on page stuff to manipulate rankings.

    Then they caught on

One of the funniest things I've seen on sites trying to stuff text is the CSS indent -9999px.

That's one of the problems with the internet, once it's posted online, it never goes away (outdated content).

I've spent the last 59 months building 412 MFA sites. Each site averages 8 cents per day...I said average, some make up to 17 cents per day, PASSIVE INCOME! This income allows me to live comfortably and buy ANY flavor Jolly Rancher or Skittles I desire. Don't give in to fear, it CAN be done!

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think there aren't really any on-page SEO tricks that allow you to boost your rankings. I just put my keyword and some related LSI keywords in a few strategic places and that's it for on-page SEO.

All depends on what you want to do.

Example, I can create a page with a single flash image & have it rank in Google SERPs as a video thumbnail image, I don't even need a video.

Will the SERP traffic expect a video on my page after clicking my SERP video/thumbnail image, maybe?

My point is, there's a few tricks to ranking in the SERPs that the average guy doesn't know about & probably never will, just depends on what your trying to rank (video, image, web page, local listings, etc....).
