When doing keyword research, i'll use the google tool and take a seed key word for example such as "wayne dyer" and then use all the long tails in individual ad groups with one keyword in each adgroup..

A lot of those keywords are getting this message...
This keyword isn't triggering ads to appear on Google or the search network.

along with poor quality score.

When doing keyword research, what should be the minimum amount of last months search volume to use the word in a campaign?

Thanks.

quality score will stop your ads displaying, because poor quality scores increase the minimum bid, and mean your bid is worth less compared to other people's bids, if they have a high quality score.

search network quality score is improved when keyword, advariant and landing page are all relevant to each other.

content network quality score is improved when keyword list, advariant, landing page and the page your advariant will display on are all relevant to each other.

other factors affect the quality score, but relevance is the largest factor. click-through-rate is also taken as evidence of relevance, so dont let poor CTR keywords hang around for months!

minimum search volume? not really related to your problem, except that quality score is checked when the keyword is triggered by a search (or page view)... so very low volume keywords might take longer for the keyword to "improve". i have made consistent sales with very low volume keywords, if the relevance is very tight and the niche has high commercial intent.

Two approaches are to be considered. 1) the 'shotgun' approach where volume is king and with volume the belief that I'm sure to get mulitple conversions 2) the 'rifle' approach where relevance is king and the belief that with relevance i'm sure to a get high Click though Rate and high Conversion rate.

If you are using the shotgun approach I find monthly search volumes of <1,000 per month to be a management headache and prefer >3,000. If you use the rifle approach then there is no minimum search as you can build a viable converting campaign with low search counts i.e. <50 per month.

For me Keywords and Quality Score is not related. Keywords stands for search engines like google to search for. While Quality means the content of a website or a product in order for your visitors or costumers would always want to use your website or your product to invest more. Keywords in google doesn't really affect a lot but if you would try it then it is ok. Through failures you may know if it is right to be more cocious of keywords rather than website's content.

Thanks for the replys guys.. Well, how could my quality score be that low if I am the only one bidding on a particular keyword?

To be the only bidder, my ad is not showing at all for some of these keywords?

once again, I have a query string that plugs in the exact keyword 5-7 times in the landing page, shouldn't that help?

how many are bidding is not the issue. you can be the only bidder and have score of 1 if your relevance is poor or you have done something in violation of googles recommendations - for example, if i forget to add 'about us' and/or 'privacy policy' that seems to knock 3-5 points of QS. i add those links and the QS comes good a few days later.

and due respect to reynald2790 but keywords and quality score are most certainly related - read the adwords help.

Initially, I believe some of your QS comes from the historical performance of the keywords (in other people's accounts).

60% of QS is CTR, then other factors are page relatedness, site quality, Ad Group focus, etc.

From what you've described, you should have a better QS than you do. Is your site crappy in some obvious way? Consider adding privacy policy, contact us, contact info (email address, phone #), etc. to see if that helps.

Try bumping to exact or phrase match, and avoid broad match to see if that helps QS.
