August 29th Big Rank Movement Today - Google update?

I run about 50 various keywords ranking reports daily and normally see small movements on a handful of words daily. Today, there was a lot of movement on more words than usual and larger fluctuations as well. Anyone else see this pattern today? Has anyone heard any news that Google has put out a new update?:confused:

    I see some shifting but nothing huge, some kw's dropped 1 or 2 spots, others climbed 1 or 2 spots. Noting unusual really, just the daily variation.

    I've noticed quite a bit of movement in the KWs I track. Several competitors have fallen completely out and others have moved up. I found this article on webpronews.com:

      Thanks for the replay. Today (30th) definitely verified something's changed. One of my main keywords dropped 4 pages back, and others shifted up and down where they normally don't move much. I suspect we'll hear a lot news soon.

    Hey Kiliki,

    I posted about this too and just got hate, but yes one of my websites that I track had a HUGE decline in over 40 keywords that were all ranking from #2-37 spot and went completely off the map. Haven't received an email from Google about a spam review or anything so I don't know what could have happened.

    I do the same linkbuilding for all of my websites and diversify the anchor text so that the natural URL is first and the brand name is 2nd most widely used anchor text. Heck even "Click Here" is the 3rd most used anchor text, so I have no idea what happened with the rankings.

    Hopefully they come back next week and no one else experiences this much decline

      Thanks for the info. Someone posted in this thread to look into removing sitewide links. I think that could be one of my problems. The update must have been something very specific. I've asked this same question on more than 1 seo forum and enough people saw big enough shifts that indicate there was something updated. I wonder if Google is not mentioning anything about it specifically because it was a super targeted update and an easy tweak that SEO's could fix quickly? Out of 40-50 main keywords I optimize, only 1 was hit hard. Unfortunately it was the one I was working hardest on. Now that I think about it, my desperation to rank that keyterm may have clouded my judgement as to what was white hat or gray hat...

    Yes you right on 29th august Google places ranking a little bit had been changed but on 1st September Google place ranking a lot of keyword have been changed. My mostly business keyword has been down. And which keywords had been facing problem today that keyword are on top position on Google places. My keyword is”urgent care Las Vegas”(url is 1worldmedicine.com)was on 3 positions on Google place but now it is found on 12 positions on Google places. And also one of my keyword “dental care Las Vegas” were not found today but today it is on 1 position on Google places I don’t understand what the Google has updated. I am dam sure that something has been updated on Google places world.

      On 8/28/2012on of my site that rank with about 17 keywords in page 1 or 2 was hit by a G update. 16 Keyword was send on page 400+ and just 1 keyword remain on the first page.

      After i remove some links and change the anchors to other the site come back on 9/02.2012.

      Tips: remove all Site Wide Links

    Have noticed an update but its just a bog standard update. I find these type of threads funny because the people who tend to post about loosing rank etc are obviously using very spammy techniques, I actually look forward to google algo updates and changes purely because I know I'm only going to move upwards.

    Just make sure you aren't doing anything spammy and trying to cheat the system and you will be fine!

      I will definitely stay away from anything even considered Gray Hat (Since even the color Gray contains a little bit of black in it). I personally am not doing anything spammy, but I am taking over doing SEO work for another team that used to buy a ton of links and got slammed hard by panda and penguin originally. I thought I was on the right track to recovery, but I guess there's more for me to look into.

    Are site wide links only links which link out to external sites from every page on your site or are inner links also counted? For example, if you link to your homepage URL from every post on your post is that considered as not good post Penguin.
