Hey guys, having an absolute mare trying to transfer a website from one host to another.

I tried just moving all the files across but got a database error. Can anyone give me step by step guide to doing it?

They're both baby hostgator accounts, it's a wordpress site and I want to move it as an addon domain on my other account.

People will disagree, but if you have databases and the like, it's
better left to your host to transfer it.

Even then, there is no guarantee it's going to work the same.

Servers are all different. msql gets updated. Linux gets updated.
php gets updated. Not all servers are on the same page.

I may be wrong, but I don't think you can just transfer the files.

I have always been on a first name basis with my independent
host. He's helped me out often. I cannot tell people enough
times to get a reliable host that is there 24-7, and you
have a direct line. Been using the same guy for 10+ years.

I use backup buddy to transfe domains :-)

It was quite cheap too and saves a whole lot of headache :-)

Also I use to build customer sites on a duff domain and once they have paid I transfer it to their domain :-)

I am going to change my hosting company. I have Wordpress site with for pages and several plugins. Olmost no traffic. Can I just change nameservers and create this site with the same domain name from the begining?
      Thanks.

Your new web host should handle your move for you. You should only need to change your nameservers at your registrar.
