Ranking on www.google.co.uk PROBLEM. Help!

There's some evidence that hosting your site on UK servers will boost your UK ranking a bit.

But that disparity between US and UK is wild. Are you totally sure you weren't looking at these in the middle of a Google update?

What is your domain suffix - if it's .com rather than .co.uk it will naturally show higher on the US site.

Hi my SEO guy who deals with my main site had the same issue with roughly the same time frame. We fully optimised the site to get to the top of the UK rankings but it was nowhere to be seen, however it was climbing the US rankings quite nicely. It was a dotcom BTW. All of a sudden after 4 weeks it appeared on the UK rankings and is starting to climb.

I think ranking is not very important because the most important is your content in your website. The content is what the searcher or the visitors really appreciated so much. They are not into ranking but they are into the content of your website. Don't you worry for that because if your website is full of content the more visitors you will have.

what reynald is saying is half-true. Ranking of course it's important. But what he's telling you is:

Create great content, and your site will promote itself. Go viral.

Just to clarify my website that I mentioned has nothing to do with affiliate marketing it is my main business which provides a service to the people of the UK.

Now Im not too sure about Matt but in my case ranking was a high priority so potential clients could find us. In terms of affiliate marketing then I would agree with reynald.

make sure your site is hosted in the UK, haveing a .co.uk address also helps

Hey mattewc,

Do you have a Google Webmasters account? If you don't, create one and verify your site. Once you have done that, go and select which region you want to target.

Go to Settings and the first option there is Geographic Target. Click on the check box and select Target Users in United Kingdom. If you had .co.uk it would do this automatically, but since it is a .com you have to tell Google specifically.

Hi, well you did sort of goof by saying that the rankings would be subject to a change in Googles PR Update - There's no such thing. Googles pagerank never updates - it CONSTANTLY updates. If someone says the next Google PR Update is in April - then what they should be saying is - Googles internal pagerank is shown in your site stats via the Google toolbox - the often talked about greenline toolbar is artificial, misleading, a gimmick and has no relationship with SERP or anything else.

But sitemaps and linking, plus what Loz is saying should help. 100 links is just a starting point. Try searching for UK Directories via the keywords.

Judge Jeffreys would have used those expressions. I thank you for calling my book interesting. It beats SEO anyday!

Sitemaps, the more I think about it the guy needs to seriously look into it and do a gradual linking excerise. If he put in 100 links in a short time and has been adding since, he may, just may have stepped into the sandbox.

Oh, and the publishers just gave my novel a new cover, far nicer
