Newbie Redirect question. Please help.

Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased 4 domain names through GoDaddy.

I've built up a site on one of them via another webhost and everything is great with it.

The other three have no content, they are just redirected through the GoDaddy control panel to point to the site that I built up.

My questions: Will these three redirect sites get indexed in google like this?

I'm hoping that eventually Google will crawl these redirect sites and present them so that if you specifically type in the domain name in google search it will appear in the listing just like my main site would: same title, description and preview but I don't want any duplicate content penalties on my main site.

Am I doing things correctly?

Thanks!

  • tinPete,

Yes these domains will get indexed but they will be ranked separately from your site that has actual content on it. If a user typed in one of your parked domains as a query, it would show up but it would take them to the default page in GoDaddy.

What is it that you are trying to do with these other domains? If you are just trying to make sure that they don’t effect what you are doing with the domain you have in use, I wouldn’t worry about that. If you want them to be redirected to the domain you have in use, you won’t have duplicate content issues as long as you do a 301 permanent redirect.

If you do not redirect these domains, they will not have meta descriptions, titles or anything else associated with them in search results.

Check out this thread on a Google forum about parked domains,

Thanks for the fast reply Shawn,

      I think you answered me...

I plan on using the 301 redirected domains as cosmetic names for adwords and on business cards because they are shorter or more memorable than my main domain which is longer but contains a good keyword in the domain name.

I just wanted to make sure that if someone types in one of those 301 redirected websites into google they will eventually get indexed and appear in the search engines and in googles preview like my main site.

I was concerned because they have not been indexed yet when I do a site: search.

I was afraid they might never show up!

It sounds like I just have to be patient and wait.

Would sending a backlink or two towards the redirect sites help get them indexed faster?

For that matter, if I got the same backlink to the three different redirect sites, does it count 3x when each redirect points its juice back to my main site?

      Thanks again!
