Maximum keyword variations per page.

Is there a maximum number of keyword variations to a page?

I have a set of 25 keywords. All are related to "wordpress design". Is it ok to target all of them on the same page?

What if the number grows to around 50 keywords, all related? Does google penalize the page if too many keywords are pointing to that page?

  • Great question Shounk Gupte,

I would not point them all to the same page. Try developing a comprehensive deep linking strategy where you can build the page rank of inner pages on your site. You also must keep the user experience in mind. For instance if you have a keyword about WP design, the page it leads too should be very relevant to that keyword if that is the anchor text.

Anchor variation is also very important, which I am leaning toward 70/30, ie 80% of my anchors are for non-keyword terms. Also, use synonyms for your target keywords. Google is using software to recognize text that is synonymous with a user’s query to offer even more relevant documents.

I would recommend not to target all the keywords on the same page. Instead, try to have dedicate pages (if not for all then at least for half of the keywords). Dedicated page will help you in ranking fast as search engines will find more relevant content on them.
