Linking ALL blog images to homepage

I have a site on which I have put a blog for SEO/traffic purposes. I have added close to 150 posts now and I'm trying to figure out how to further increase the CTR on these blog pages back to my homepage.

One thing that struck me was that lots of people click the images that just sit there to accompany the posts visually. What if I would link the images to my homepage (where I really need all the traffic) in addition to linking all the banners and text links there?

Is that viewed by Google as spam in some way? Will my SE rankings suffer?

Appreciate any input!

I'll tell you exactly what will happen.

If traffic clicks the image in the SERPs, the traffic will land on your Index page. I know because I did this with about 5 or so images, the images ranked just fine, but when I clicked the ranked image & landed on the Index page, the image wasn't anywhere on the Index page (lol).

The only downside is it might confuse traffic.

As mentioned above, confused traffic ould just end up with a higher bounce rate .. which is not good in long run

I don't know... maybe that slightly "confused" traffic is better than no traffic. I only get about a 20% CTR from my blog to homepage.

Any secret CTR boosting tricks on blogs?

Maybe If all the images are related to the Index page. CTR isn't the only thing you need to consider, will the traffic bounce as soon as they land on your page, after clicking the SERP image.

The easy answer is better content but in your case you probably want to work on the title of your content as well. That's what people see and drives them to look further so you need to have a title that drives that interest. Commonly at the end of articles you will sometimes see people post "Related Articles" and such, to increase the likelihood of people reading more.

  • Think of your visitor experience. Are they going to get any value by clicking on an image and then being directed to your home page? If the image is of a cake (for example) will there be a recipe for that cake on the home page, or a review of what the cake tasted like etc. If the answer is no, then it's not a good idea as visitors will probably just navigate away from the site and never come back.
